With few exceptions, women aren't funny

Wendi M-C is an exception. Kathryn Hahn is another. And her Reno 911! cast mate Kerri Kenney. Anyone have any other examples?

Yeah I know, I'm not doing what I'm supposed to do by the scold class. So throw out some names... give me some funny ladies to watch and laugh. If you give me Amy Schumer I'll know you're not to be taken seriously.

A LOT of women are funny but i do agree that Wendy and specially Kathryn Hahn are hilarious.

So give me some more examples, I'm willing to give them a shot. Please, please, please do not play the Amy Schumer card. You can play the Melissa McCarthy card, I'll concede that one as an acquired taste. Just not for me. Everybody talked her up in the horribly overrated Bridesmaids, which fell apart after Wendi M-C dropped her hilarious lines and then mysteriously disappeared. And that was supposed to be the pinnacle of female comedy, if I correctly remember what I was told to think. That reminds me, Kristen Wiig is pretty good. I haven't watched SNL since the 90s since I actually like to laugh, but she's been good in several movies.

Oh and I left one out before: Chelsea Peretti. She was hilarious on that "World's Dumbest" show back in the day. And there was a funny cutie on that show whose name escapes me right now. Daisy something?

Depends what kind of funny we're talking about.

Being funny has an obvious reward though -- sex.

Since men already want to fuck pretty much all women, there is little benefit in women being funny (though it still occurs of course). The point however is that men are more inclined to compete with each to be funny because... there is a huge reward.

reply

Exactly. Humor is actually borne from competition over mates.

It's literally an elation over being the winner, happiness over not being the loser, and mockery against the loser, all rolled into one.

You will see humans laugh for any of those three reasons: Excitement; "Glad it wasn't me"; Laughing at the failures of others (even to the point of feeling bad for laughing).

That's why it's hard to analyze laughter from the perspective of being in civilized society. We don't think of it as animal behavior, but it is.

Damn I just realized, two that I left out are the top two funny ladies: Catherine O'Hara and Andrea Martin, from SCTV. Funny, funny women.

Look at that, you're already coming around to realizing your error in making this topic.

Let me just say...

1. Males and females are two halves of one group. It's impossible for them to have exactly equal numbers/percentages of any single trait. Therefore, one of them is going to have more funny people, guaranteed.

2. As someone who has a pretty tough sense of humor, I would immediately disagree that most of the males you find "funny" are actually funny. Standup humor is tough and I find 95% of comedians to be unfunny.

3. If you go with actors/actresses, keep in mind that they may only be adding comic timing, and most likely didn't write the funny dialogue or jokes.

#3 immediately causes men to be seen as funnier because men are more likely to be given writing jobs and men are more likely to be cast in primary roles.

NOTICE how your topic lists two Reno 911 actresses... NOW consider this:

Reno 911 was created by three of the cast members, who do most of the writing: Tom Lennon, Rob Garant, and Kerri Kenney.

Kerri most likely insisted on a strong female presence instead of making the cops almost all guys, and she probably knew the other females who were cast. She probably knew them from standup comedy.

Lastly... I used to live a few blocks from where Reno 911 shoots a lot of their stuff. That was in North Hollywood.
