Best drummer in the world

for the greatest band of all time. Truly a rock star!

reply

He kicks ass

reply

And he's roguishly handsome!

reply

Darn tootin

reply

Yes he certainly was!!

reply

He's not even the best drummer in Foo Fighters.

reply

So he's the best drummer in the world because Foo Fighters are your favorite band?

I can remember years ago some music magazines used to do polls every year on the best guitarist, drummer, bass , keyboard player etc.

And you found that people just voted for every musician in their favorite band. So it was pointless.

So tell me...how many other drummers have you seen and heard?

reply

Awesome I remember in the early 2000s circus magazine did top 4 bands of ALL TIME... it was nirvana, korn, and then two other bands that were only popular during that period (pretty much how korn was). Nirvana was at least a few years removed but this was still ridiculous to me even as a dumb kid.

reply

That was originally a joke on Ringo Star by John Lennon. Nice though and possibly true.

reply

Think this is a myth, I think it was a joke from Jasper Carrot, an English comedian. Lennon had a lost of respect for Ringo's drumming.

reply

After immediately looking into it after my posting I found out that it is indeed a myth. It's a funny one liner though.

reply

I'm going to go with:

Dave Lombardo
Bill Ward (in his prime)
Peter Criss (ditto)
Stian Kristoffersen
Lars Ulrich
Any drummer that can handle playing with Sepultura in the New Millennium

reply

Lars Ulrich? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

reply

Absolutely... for the RIDE THE LIGHTNING album alone.

reply

surprised that someone else knows about Dave Lombardo, dude is a machine on the drums.

Neil Pert was good too and so is Mike Portnoy.

reply

Gene Hoglan is one of the greats.

reply

As you prob know, he played on Death's SYMBOLIC, such a great album.

reply

I love his work with Dark Angel.

reply

I think LEAVE SCARS is easily their best album. I hear they're back together and working on new material. Unfortunately, one of the guitarists just passed away on March 8th, 2023, Jim Durkin. Thankfully, Hoglan's wife is replacing him, Laura Christine.

reply

I'm surprised that people aren't more familiar with him.

reply

yeah, prob has to do with the band maybe ;)

he never gets mentioned at all when it comes to great drummers though.

reply

No doubt, but he's done a lot of stuff beyond Slayer, like his two albums with Philm.

lots of cross dressing in this video. RIP Taylor Hawkins, this song takes me back but they proved they were rolling stones

reply

Actually Taylor would say the best drummer in the whole world and throughout space and time was Neil Peart of Rush. That's why he and Grohl were the ones who inducted Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

reply

No way. These guys are all better.

John Bonham
Neil Peart
Keith Moon
Bill Ward
Mitch Mitchell
Jimmy Chamberlin
Bill Bruford

I'm not trying to take anything away from Taylor Hawkins. He's good, but he's not the greatest.

reply

I'd throw Ginger Baker on that list.

reply

Now he's just another dead dope addict.

reply

You mean, just like when Robin Williams died... he was the greatest comedian in the word. And just like when Prince died....he was the greatest guitarist in the word. Right?

reply

This post is 4 years old.

reply

Prince was a surprisingly excellent guitarist.

reply

Very true. But every single time somebody dies, there is an outpouring of posts how that person was "..the best in the world."
