For me it would be Anton Yelchin for sure.

Other people on the list, most of them were drug addicts, one killed himself, and one died in a car crash and was known for loving race cars and speed and I assume reckless driving.

Although all of those deaths are sad, those people were taunting death so to speak. While Anton’s death was a freak accident because of the faulty car.

Also I think it is a horrible way to go, being crushed by a car. Shotgun to the head is instant, and I guess overdose you don’t feel that much either, for the car crash I dunno if he died instantly or not, if it was quick than I would say Anton’s was the worst way to die.

reply

Um, you know James Dean didn't cause the crash that killed him, right?

reply

Actually I don’t remember the details, that is why I said I assume.

I just remembered that he liked sports cars and racing, so I assumed his speed was over the limit.

reply

“It has long been part of Hollywood lore that Dean, with his passion for fast cars and reputation for rebellious behaviour, was driving his high-powered Porsche Spyder 550 when he and Rolf Weutherich, a mechanic, smashed into another car on a Californian highway.”

So it wasn’t just my assumption, it is part of the lore that probably stuck with me that he was speeding.

Although it was later proven he was driving safely, he did get a speeding ticket just 2 hours prior the accident.

I guess after he got the ticket he started driving more in the limit, but it didn’t make much difference.

It didn't matter because he didn't cause the accident:

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Dean and Hickman left Blackwells Corner, driving west on Route 466 toward Paso Robles, approximately 60 miles (97 km) away. Dean accelerated in the "Little Bastard" and left the Ford station wagon far behind. Further along on Route 466, the Porsche crested Polonio Pass and headed down the long Antelope Grade, passing cars along the way toward the junction of Route 466 and Route 41. At approximately 5:45 p.m., a black-and-white 1950 Ford Tudor driven at high speed was headed east on Route 466 just west of the junction near Shandon.[12] Its driver, 23-year-old US Navy veteran and Cal Poly student Donald Turnupseed,[13][14][15] made a left turn onto Route 41 headed north, toward Fresno. As Turnupseed's Ford crossed over the center line, Dean (clearly seeing an imminent crash) apparently tried to steer the Spyder in a "side stepping" racing maneuver, but with insufficient time and space, the two cars crashed almost head-on. A witness, John Robert White, reportedly saw the Spyder smash into the ground two or three times in cartwheels,[16] and landing in a gully beside the shoulder of the road, northwest of the junction. The sheer velocity of the impact sent the much-heavier Ford broad-sliding 39 feet (12 m) down Route 466 in the westbound lane.[17] The accident was witnessed by a number of passersby who stopped to help. A woman with nursing experience attended to Dean and detected a weak pulse in his neck, but according to the woman, "death appeared to have been instantaneous".

I read the wikipedia article already, but thanks anyway.

That’s why I commented it didn’t make difference that he drived safely because he died anyway.

I found some article from 14 years back where they were investigating the accident again. In it some eyewitness claims that Dean didn’t even drive the car, that he was on passenger seat. But that was disputed by investigators saying he ended up there from the impact.

What I also find curious how come Donald Turnupseed wasn’t found guilty if what it says in Wiki article is true that he was driving his Ford Tudor at high speed and he crossed the center line?!

In the Telegraph article it says: “The inquest findings were confusing, complicated by conflicting testimonies. But Mr Turnupseed was exonerated, leaving Dean as the one who most likely caused the crash.

The one person who could have solved the enduring mystery, the mechanic Weutherich, was too badly injured to attend the inquest. When he recovered he returned to his native Germany and never spoke of the crash. He died in another car crash in 1981.“

So, it seems they used to think it was probably Dean’s fault, but only the recent investigation and computer simulation proved that it wasn’t his fault and he wasn’t driving fast?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

p.s. maybe we should have moved conversation to the James Dean board. 😂

My guess is that Turnupseed wasn't charged because it was a weak case. It seems that the forensics of the time were lacking in providing concrete proof. That coupled with Dean's reputation probably made prosecution an up-hill battle. It's a sad situation but I'd like to think that Turnupseed wasn't acting out of malice of any kind, just bad judgement.

Brandon Lee.Completely senseless accident just as he was on the cusp of stardom.

reply

Anton of course. He was crushed by his own vehicle because of a design fault while checking his mailbox in his own driveway. That is sad.

Heath Ledger - Druggie
James Dean - Routine car accident. Sad, but it happens all the time.
River Phoenix - Druggie
Kurt Cobain - Druggie
Jim Morrison - Druggie

Thanks for the warning! If only more jackasses did that it would be much easier to keep the boards clean.
You're on the ignore list now.

Sharon Tate - murdered at eight and a half months pregnant (stabbed sixteen times)
Rebecca Shaeffer - murdered, shot at point blank range by a fan with a gun
Dominique Dunn - strangled into a coma by her boyfriend, then taken off life support by father, mother, and brother
Bob Crane - head bashed in by a tripod
John Lennon - assassinated

I will say Brandon Lee's death is tragic. As for Anton, very tragic given the randomness of the accident that took him.

As for the rest in your list, all druggies who spun the wheel and lost. James Dean, was speeding.

reply

So being a druggie means none of them were talented? Reminds me of a quote from a movie “whose life doesn’t have any flaws”

reply

Oh I'm a huge Jim Morrison and The Doors fan, however, my love of their music is not beholden to his recklessness. As for the others, again they spun the wheel and lost. The people I named did nothing to bring on their deaths. They were living their lives, one was awaiting the birth of her baby in less than two weeks.

Calling Heath Ledger a “druggie” is like calling every person who’s ever had a health problem and taken medication for it a “druggie”.

reply

He abused prescription drugs. That's a druggie:

Cause of death:

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York released its conclusions, based on an initial autopsy on 23 January 2008 and a subsequent complete toxicological analysis. The report concludes, in part, "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine." It states definitively: "We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescribed medications.
