No, Kevin Costner doesn't have intensity. Plus, I think if Sam had done Robin Hood, he would have attempted some sort of accent.

Kevin was a bigger name in Hollywood, that's why his downfall was and still is more talked about. Sam just disappeared.

Costner was a big name on both sides of the camera, he won Best Director before he fell from grace a few years later, so no - Sam's not comparable.

I'd say he's comparable to Orlando Bloom, in that he made his name with some very high-profile, FX-heavy pics but his career hasn't maintained its early momentum.

I still like the guy though.

They definitely have the same charisma and talent... on a scale from Kevin Costner to Meryl Streep, I guess he'd rate a solid Kevin Costner, yes.
