her career has plateaued ???

She was great in Smashed which I thought was Oscar worthy. She was also good in Faults but can't seem to get that one role which would put her into the upper echelon of actresses.

I'm pretty confident that she will give a tour-de-force performance in Fargo season 3 and that in turn will open her the doors for more roles in the future(hopefully more movies), one of which will make her a star.

And she was indeed snubbed for her performance in Smashed.

reply

She was fantastic in Fargo and i have high hopes she will keep getting good roles and who knows maybe be in run for some awards in the future,

reply

Yeah, hopefully she will.

reply

I was just wondering about this, actually.

I thought she was going to really break out after 10 Cloverfield Lane but it just hasn't really happened. She has continued to work and has stayed busy, certainly, but she hasn't risen to stardom in the way that, say, Jennifer Lawrence did after she made Winter's Bone.

It will be interesting to see what happens with her, but I'm starting to think she'll mostly be a supporting actor who will top out with a career on the level of, I guess, someone like Zooey Deschanel.

reply

I like her as an actress and I am still hoping she will be more than a supporting actor.

reply

People have been asking "why isn't she a big star?" for years now. I think she's purposely avoiding it. She turned down the Maria Hill role. She's also turned down other big movies because she didn't want to play someone's girlfriend/wife.

reply

Loved her in Braindead.
I don't think she'll ever become a blockbuster A- lister or anything, but she's been doing well and I've been enjoying the stuff she's been in.

reply

I do like her as an actress.

reply

She has a big role in the upcoming Will Smith Action flick Gemini Man (2019) directed by Ang Lee.

reply

No I think her career is where I expected it to be. Leading lady in Indie films and mid table Hollywood genre films like The Thing remake and 10 Cloverfield Lane, typecast in girlfriend/wife roles. She's probably known for Scott Pilgrim if at all, and her turn in Fargo season 3. Unless she steals the show in Birds of Prey and that proves to be commercial and critical success, I just don't see that career path changing too much.

I do think that whole McGregor affair thing did her no favors either, and I'm sure it effected her career as well.

reply

Yeah her career seems diverse enough with main roles in small indie movies and supporting roles in Blockbuster/Action flicks. plus she has had big TV Roles in Fargo and the Short-lived but fun 'Braindead' so she has that to go back to if movie roles dry out.

reply

She is a mediocre actress with aging looks

reply

she still looks good.

reply

She's an excellent actress. I find her gorgeous as well, but to each their own, and that's really got nothing to do with acting ability anyway.

reply

She's a fine actress and is aging gracefully.

And will remain a fine actress no matter how her appearance changes over the years.

reply

She's a very underrated actress who should have broken out big 10 years ago. Unfortunately it seems she's been somewhat unlucky as she hasn't seemed to be able to land a starring role in anything that would go on to be a big critical or commercial success. Even her latest high profile "Birds of Prey" unperformed at the box office as did her previous film Gemini Man where she co-starred with Will Smith. Neither case was her fault, again just unlucky.

It's definitely a shame that the likes of Kirsten Stewart has had a more successful career even it's easily explained by her lucking out with the career making Twilight franchise. Winstead just hasn't been nearly as lucky despite her talent. The days of her being a hot, rising young movie starlet are over but she still has time to successfully distinguish herself as a maturing leading lady.

Despite being a successful child actress & somehow managing only middling success in her 20s, often relegated to playing "the beautiful love interest" throughout the 90s, Jennifer Connolly didn't truly break out as a successful leading lady until she was in her 30s so Winstead still has time.

This is still true over 4 years later. :(
