As much as I love Arrested Development it never rings true to me when Mae's character is referred to as bland, forgettable, plain, etc.
Is it an inside joke that I'm not getting, hiring a beautiful girl to fill such a role? Or do people really see her that way?
I think she is one of the prettiest actresses working today.

shareI don't think I saw her in Arrested Development (I didn't watch it for long), but I love her in Parenthood and everything else I've seen her in. She is really beautiful and an excellent actress.
shareThe Ann character was originally played by another actress, and when Mae replaced her, this led to jokes about her appearance - Michael said he could have sworn she looked differently.
Mae did such a good job of portraying the bland Ann/Egg that I couldn't believe she was the same person on Parenthood. She's another understated actress who's very talented, and I hope she does well.
