Freddie Mercury?

Hey, is he still going to play Freddie Mercury in a movie? The last thing that I heard was it was confirmed that he was going to play Freddie, but I haven't heard anything more after that.

I think the project is still on the back-burner and, from what I hear, Ben is still a rumor (even the IMDB page insists as much: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1727824/combined).

I think he'll need a break after The Crucible, so even if he plays Freddie, it would likely be a while.

Could work.
At the very least, he's closer to Freddie's height.
Ali G is too tall.

Brian May mentioned Ben Whishaw In his new interview which was about Freddie Mercury biopic : We’re hoping Ben Whishaw will do it. He’s fabulous – a real actor.

Seriously? How the F is this white Englishman supposed to play a real person who was actually Indian? This doesn't piss people off? He was as Indian as the sun is hot- England has plenty of Asians and this is the best person they can think to represent one of the most popular Asians in the world?! And what the heck did Brian May and the rest of Queen think he was the whole time they knew him? Are they seriously this blind? And I can bet the whole- it will be tastefully done- crap will be trotted out as usual. Please. This guy may be a good actor but no thanks. If the actors themselves don't make a stand and stop thinking about awards and money for a second, this kind of nonsense will stop hopefully. But please, do call me a racebaiting troll for pointing out the painfully obvious- this man does not and will not be able to adequately or accurately portray the real Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) as he was in real life- and that starts with his race.

because of all the complains about whitewash they replaced Whishaw with Rami Malek!
guess what!? Malek is not indian, persian or from indian or persian decent just like Whishaw! and he doesn't look persian r indian too! and he is shorter than Mercury.
but he is non-white actor so maybe some are Happy Now!
but people (especially those on twitter who are always offended) need to know that Egyptians are not persian and don't look persian.
can Malek sing? how good can he sing? can he do the accent? can he pull off this role? probably the answer to all questions is a Big NO
