Yes, Shane's character Ray did lose both his legs - below the knee amputations. He got drunk at Abby and Luka's wedding, got into a fight with Gates over Neela, and stumbled onto the road where a truck hit him. His mother took him home to Baton Rouge to care for him and he's gone for the 14th season.
In the 15th and final season of the show, he came back for some guest appearances. He had prosthetic legs fitted and can walk and run etc. He worked in a hospital back home as some physical rehab doctor, I think, and Neela eventually moves there to take a position and to be with him. Last time we see him is via Neela's webcam chat to people at County, where he's helping her set up her office.
