Surprised he doesn't have more credits listed

I'm surprised he doesn't have more TV and movie credits.

Perhaps he works more in theatre.

Anyone know?

That's a good question. I'll be honest and say that I'm limited in what I've seen him in (mostly Buffy) but he was pretty good on that and it's surprising to see he doesn't have a bigger resume. Granted I'm biased cause I think he's kinda, sorta gorgeous.

I thought he did well in "Buffy" as Dr Ben. I was looking to see what other characters he'd played. Very surprised to find so little. The only reason I could think of was to guess that most of his work was on the stage.

That's because casting directors don't have your talent for picking winners.

Perhaps it's because casting directors are afraid to cast an actor as a character they haven't already played. This is why so many actors go to the stage where they are expected to play other characters -- and where other directors can see them and tell the casting directors, "I want him/her for this part."

When the TV people saw Angela Lansbury play Miss Jane Marple in "The Mirror Crack'd" (1980), they built "Murder, She Wrote" for her to play Miss Marple over and over again. Thankfully, she had the clout to make them re-do Jessica Fletcher into someone other than a warmed-over clone of Jane Marple.

It took some time -- and a bit of doing -- for Joseph Lawrence to shake off the Joey Russo personna from "Blossom". Time, effort, and shaving off that rich mane of wavy brown hair. (And he's still usually listed as "Joey Lawrence".)

And I'm reasonably sure that when "Frasier" finished production, David Hyde Pierce received approximately 3,287 offers of shows where he could play Dr. Niles Crane until Daphne was pushing him around in a wheelchair.

• Television will make you famous; but only
• Theatre will make you an actor.
