Hugo Weaving should play Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes sequel!

Seriously!

He has a decent height (which adds to the "imposing" factor), a powerful voice (when he says something, you really listen to the words), and an air of intelligence that would perfectly fit the character.

Although it is rumored that the part is either going to Daniel Day Lewis or Gary Oldman, and I would actually be very happy with the latter, I still think Weaving is the best choice for Sherlock Holmes' nemesis.

Apparently Daniel Day-Lewis has already signed for it:

Not that I don't think Weaving would do a good job with it too, because I'm sure he would. The filming might conflict with "The Hobbit", though, which is a smidge closer to being a reality (according to Ian McKellen):

^That was back in August, and DDL's rep denied him signing on for it. As far as I know, Oldman is the top pick.

Okay, I stand corrected then.

Personally, I don't ever need to see Hugo Weaving play another "supervillain". Complex, dark characters, sure, but no more post-Agent Smith franchise villains. He's already done enough of those. (I didn't think much of Guy Ritchie's take on Sherlock Holmes either.) I do want to see him play a wider variety of characters in high-profile films, as he already has for years in smaller Australian films.

The very latest word has Jared Harris getting the role:

I don't watch "Mad Men" so I'm not familiar with the actor. Guess we'll see how it pans out. I do think Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes is an excellent choice.
