Arrested Development commentary tracks

Dunno if anyone has got the Arrested Development DVDs and listened to the few episodes with commentary tracks. I think Jessica Walter is great in Arrested Development, she does a great job portraying her character and deserves an emmy for sure.

However, on the commentary track, she seems very domineering of the group. When she starts speaking she simply speaks over everyone until people shut up. And she always points out her scenes and makes everyone silent. What was the deal with that? Will Arnett and David Cross were hilarious and the other people chime in but it seemed she was being a little rude... i dunno, maybe it's just me.

I didn't feel that way. If anything I felt like Will Arnett was the domineering one, but that's ok because he's hilarious. I thought Jessica Walter was actually pretty classy.

I didn't find her that way. I actually love her in the commentary tracks because she just seems so adorable. She laughs really loudly at Will's jokes and always compliments people on how attractive they are and how talented they are etc.

I think she's just playing around when she has people stop and listen to her.

Yeah ^ exactly.

I have to agree with the OP, but that's just the type of person she is? I don't think she's big headed, she's just a little overly infatuated with AD--she did point out alot of other things she loved in each episode but she did make it a point that she was on screen and that she wanted to pay attention to how hilarious she was--which she was so..

Michael Cera said in a TV guide interview that many of the actors were in various places, while recording the commentary. They were all talking over a conference phone & it was difficult to hear one another. I believe he said that Jessica was calling in from NYC. This could explain why she comes off that way.

reply

Well Alia Shawkat does say this about her in an interview "Like Jessica [Walter] is kind of the diva and everyone talks about her behind her back, but we still respect her to her face". Make of that what you will.

that is OBVIOUSLY tongue-in-cheek and taken out of context. Where is your source? Post a link to the full article.

Can't remember what that's from (EW I think) but I read that too, and assumed it to be tongue-in-cheek.
