Sense8 3 Star Rating on Netflix

I'd been avoiding the show because 1.)There are a metric crap ton of Netflix Originals now, ain't nobody got time all of them. 2.)The Netflix crowd gave it a 3 out of 5, so I figured it was meh.

I saw a YouTube ad yesterday and immediately recognized Naveen Andrews whom I absolutely adore from his work on Lost as Sayid. So I put up my feet last night and THEN realized it was Wachowski material and I knew I was going like/love the show.

Why am I posting thIS here on the Lana board? I wonder if the poor Netflix rating is simply because of people down-voting Lana's decision to be, well, Lana. The show, while definitely heavy on LGBT material, is still the Wachowskis I know and love and extremely engaging beyond what some might think offensive.

What do you all think?

Not everyone finds glbt stuff all that interesting. Yet to check it out after reading some reviews. Maybe it was a exaggeration, i dunno. But someone said its mostly a "gay" show. Ever though i like the matrix team, i doubt ill like the show. I dont care that lana is transgender or whatever, so much so i dont want to watch a show about all that stuff. Sorry

I don't think the rating has a lot to do with the transgender issue. I think that a lot of people aren't patient enough to get into the whole "we're all connected" storyline. After reading some of the reviews, people didn't like "cloud atlas" so they aren't willing to watch this and get into it. So far, I love this show. I like the story and I think the casting and directing are top notch.

2 characters out of the main 8 are gay. Only a homophobe would call that a "gay" show. So sad that your bigotry stops you from giving the show a chance.

5 star now

You guys get the Netflix rating totaly wrong. The rating you see as a user is the rating netflix suggest you would give bassed an all you already have rated and seen

reply

Someone already kinda mentioned it but the Netflix rating is an algorithm based on what you've watched and rated and it predicts the rating based on you and the communities similarities. Netflix loves their algorithms.

So basically what this means is. If you rate all horror films 1 star. Then new horror films you haven't seen are going to have a 1 star rating, before you rate them or see them. The star rating is basically telling you how likely you are to enjoy the program you are about to watch.

Sorry but your guys' explanations of Netflix's rating system are totally false. It is NOT an algorithm based on what you've voted other movies. It is simply the average rating that all Netflix users who have rated it have given it. This is directly from Netflix's website:

"Netflix gives you the option to rate movies and TV shows that you've watched or that have been recommended to you on a 1-5 star rating scale, with a one star rating meaning 'Hated It,' and a five star rating meaning 'Loved It.' Star ratings in red indicate an overall Netflix rating for the title and star ratings in yellow indicate the rating you've given the title.

You can also rate titles from the movie description page for a movie or TV show.

You may also review the titles that you've previously rated by clicking on Ratings under the My Profile section of Your Account.
Rating movies and TV shows is an easy way for you to help teach us what you like. The more titles you rate, the better our suggestions will be."

You rating previous titles only determines what shows up in your "recommended for me" list.

I'm sorry, but you're totally false. There are two ratings you can see. One is the average rating of the people that rated it. And a recommended rating. Which is what netflix thinks you'd think about the show. The one that the two people are talking about has to be a recommended rating, because one person says it's rated a 3, and the other says it has a 5. Which are both incorrect for the actual rating of the show. But my main point is, THERE IS A RECCOMENED rating. Which is what most people actually see......
