I'm surprised no one here is talking about the orange psycho's border shutdown threat

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't such a shutdown affect trade which, in turn, would affect our economy?

Don't we get a very large number of goods from Mexico? Would we not be in SERIOUS trouble if that trade is suddenly cut off?

I'm shocked no one is talking about this...

It's obvious this is Ronald Dump's Shutdown 2.0 play--only this time it's the southern border itself. It's his new play to try to get his ridiculous, laughable, sick and medieval vanity wall. The difference? This particular shutdown would make the government shutdown look like a cakewalk.

This is bad, right? It sounds bad to me. I'm just surprised I haven't seen a single mention of it here.

So I've noticed.

My point is that no Trump development goes unchecked around here and somehow this most important one has. I just found it odd, really.

reply

Maybe not here on MC, but people are talking about it. As dumb-dork would put it - It's HYUGE !!
That's what I hate about all this. They are a big economic partner, but numb-skull just blusters along with his one-note chorus, that illegal immigrants are ruining this country. It is SO EFFING STUPID I can't fathom why anyone supports this jack-ass.

reply

I'm an imaginative guy and even I'm running out of ways of imagining why people support this orange cretin. The only thing I can surmise is that they love how he's destroying everything "the dems" built and/or "the dems" care about. It's all about "sticking it to them dems" and nothing more. Hell, some of them have essentially said as much in some comment sections online.

Furthermore, I think most Trumpers are too damn stupid to understand the economic implications of this shutdown. They must think we get very little from Mexico or something. Some of them have even said: "So, what? We'll just manufacture more stuff here in the US like we should!". THAT is the one that gets me the most. These buffoons don't even seem to realize two key problems with that mentality: 1. We're NOT manufacturing those things here and 2. The cost would be prohibitive, which is why we're outsourcing. It's also why the prices are as low as they are in stores. Prices would skyrocket without that trade stream.

It's our own country's fault. We pigeon-holed ourselves with all this outsourcing and now we're at a point where we're so reliant that, if we were to pull out so suddenly, we'd collapse economically. His supporters don't get that, though. They think this can all be changed with a flick of a switch.

Furthermore, Trumpers have displayed their ignorance on this subject by saying things like: "I don't care if I have to pay more--I just want more American-produced products". Idiots. They say that now because they're not living through the nightmare (yet) that would ensue if Orange Julius Caesar were to pull the plug on Mexican trade.

My GOD, they're fcking stupid. It's almost incomprehensible how stupid Trumpers can be.

well , tbh , people should be able to make their own shit, the only problrm is we/they/whoever arnt right now so it would be a bumpy change over period.
" 1. We're NOT manufacturing those things here" - yes , well maybe you should.
" 2. The cost would be prohibitive, which is why we're outsourcing.. "

I read that as "If we wernt exploiting the third world , and basically making them our slaves , we would have to pay a fair price for our shit."

I'm not getting at the USA here , that applies to all western countries.

*Sigh*

Seems like I always to spell everything out for people. My POINT is that it is FOOLISH to just shut down a massive trade resource without being prepared. Yes, we SHOULD be manufacturing here...but we aren't. It make NO rational sense to just destroy a trade pact without a viable backup. Would you quit a job without equitable backup or another job lined up? Same reasoning here.

It frightens me how so many people aren't grasping this rudimentary concept.

"My POINT is that it is FOOLISH to just shut down a massive trade resource without being prepared"
yes , no argument there

Its possibly about to happen to us in the UK as we crash out of the European Union without a trade arrangement , if something isnt sorted in the next 10 days!

reply

Well, then we're both up $hit creek without a paddle, aren't we?

reply

-12 points of entry in the border
-$1.7 billion loss a day if border is closed off
-9 of 10 states affected would be red states (10th is California), lulz. Trump loves screwing his voters.

I'm actually hoping he does it.

reply

No surprise there. Those morons typically champion the things that hurt them the most.

reply

Wow...sometimes I wonder if trumpers are just trolling or if they're really just THIS stupid. Several of them over on Yahoo are saying things like "so what? I can live without avocados" and "oh no! No more guacamole!"

*Sigh*...I keep telling myself they're just joking around but I don't think so. I think the trumpers are really that dumb and that bigoted. No WONDER they are screaming for a border shutdown: They don't have the slightest idea of the implications! Hell, 90% of them spell it like Trump does: "boarder". So goddamn embarrassing...

reply

This will also be bad for American reputation globally. Not that it's great right now anyways. But trump just signed a new trade deal with Mexico. What's the point of negotiating and making deals with a country that keeps changing it's mind?

reply

Well said and very true! Our country is even more of a laughing stock than it already was! Our reputation is in the sh!tter and our ""leader"" is an infantile psycho who has demonstrated on a DAILY (hell, even HOURLY) basis that he's a thin-skinned, reactionary buffoon. What country will want to deal with us? Oh, that's right--our enemies: Russia and North Korea. *Facepalm*

reply

You are right! A border shutdown would badly affect the economy. Also interfering with people who are travelling to other Latin American countries by car through Mexico. Hasn't he ever thought about these things? Or, does he just not care?

Oh, and another thing. . . . he's going to replace Obama Care with a new health care program after 2020??? What??? He thinks he's going to be president in 2020???? HA!

Nothing surprised me about this idiot these days. He is such a bombastic idiot!!

reply

Yeah, that health care bit really made me laugh. He wants to kill Obamacare NOW and not institute a replacement until after 2020 in a hypothetical scenario where he's still president by then.

....You just can't make this sh!t up. O_o
