Ivanka wants to do away with student loans for college kids !

On Monday, Ivanka T-rump (senior adviser to the President and often times mistaken as his wife) proposed a sure-fire way for college students to cut student debt: Make it harder to get student loans.

Her proposal is for parents of undergrads and grad students themselves be limited to the ways they can pay for school via loans, which will drive the ever-growing student debt problem down. Of course this warped thinking - from a hotel heiress who claimed being born into wealth is a disadvantage - only puts more pressure on the parents and students. A more sensible way is to cut and cap the interest rates banks and loan institutions are allowed to charge on loans - but she doesn't want to do that.

Interest rates are set to rise again this year, for the second year in a row. As it stands now, 44 million borrowers owe more than $1.5 trillion in student loan debt - an increase of 300% from 2004.

The vast major-majority of the Republican mindset since the Reagan era (and to be fair, George W. Bush tried to do some good old school social spending things but what he tried to do was obstructed and shut down by his own Republican legislators and advisors....) has been:

- Get rid of student loans and loan debt gradually declines then no longer exists, student loan debt cleared!

- Get rid of the individual mandate and Medicaid and Medicare and nobody has to buy health care insurance or spend any money on health care which means you've saved a lot of money, medical debt cleared!

- Get rid of unemployment compensation and nobody applies for it which means nobody is unemployed, unemployment cleared!

- Get rid of social spending for food/nutrition and nobody is applying for food/nutrition aid which means nobody is starving which means hunger cleared!

- Get rid of HUD and nobody is applying for federal housing which means homelessness cleared!

- Get rid of EPA and nobody can file a complaint or sue about environmental damage etc which means environmental damage and pollution and emissions etc everywhere are cleared!

- Get rid of all government spending (except military/defense/fossilfuels) and nobody is applying for any government spending which means everybody's problems are cleared!

Liberals have done a heck of a job convincing us that schools are struggling to survive budget cuts. The truth is these are the wealthiest institutions in the world. Technically they don't even have to charge tuition, because their endowments are large enough to pay for it all. The highest paid government employee anywhere in the country is a university football coach. Administrators make 8 figures a year. These people are robbing us.

College didn't used to be expensive. It didn't used to require loans. Free loans guaranteed by the government enable them to do all the mischief, charge high prices and spend it all in the wrong places. Here's an idea short of rolling them back. Just make the colleges partly liable for those loans. That's it. It's the most mild reform imaginable, but you say this to a univeristy administrator and they'll freak out. That's the measure of how criminal they are. Your idea of capping interest rates does nothing except incentivize even bigger loans.

That's because colleges used to be much more limited in what they offered (starting with technology) than they offer now. The classroom has come a very long way over the past three decades.
