You know...when Donald Trump finally leaves/is removed from office I will never look at my fellow Americans the same way
Most of us talk about how we can't wait for Trump to be removed/his presidency to be over but I want to address something else that isn't discussed much: The lasting effects of it all.
Donald Trump's election was a wake-up call for me. A rude awakening. I've always known there was ignorance and hatred in our country but I was unaware of just how large the scale is. While not all Trumpers are like this, it seems the absolute vast majority of Trump supporters are angry, embittered people who wanted a colossal change. They champion his crazy antics as "good things" and love that he's "shaking things up".
While I agree that PC has absolutely choked our country (and YES, it has. It's damned annoying, too)...Donald Trump and his extreme tactics were NOT the answer. All that Trump did was skew us from one extreme side of the spectrum to the other. That's not a solution. Obama wasn't a solution and Trump most definitely isn't a solution.
Our only solution, I fear, is one we'll likely never see: a middle road president. An independent. We need change from BOTH "sides" and we need it soon.
When Donald is gone, I have to live with the knowledge that over 60 million--60 MILLION--Americans were A-OK with the brutal Gestapo tactics of Donald Trump--that many of them were willing to embrace dictatorial tactics to bring about the change they were envisioning...that THIS many people could be so easily duped.
This isn't easy knowledge to live with. It illustrates just how out of control this country truly is. We're bad--I mean WAY worse than I realized. This is a terrible situation. We're more divided than we've been in DECADES. So much so that I'm thinking we either need to find a way to do away with the party system or finally cut bait and just dividing the damn states into two countries and be done with it. Either way, we're in very bad shape.
Donald Trump's election has disenchanted me, really. Think of the amount of hatred, anger and fear it would take for THAT many people to embrace such a dangerous, unhinged and unqualified man.
We're in trouble. I don't know any other way to put it.
