You know...when Donald Trump finally leaves/is removed from office I will never look at my fellow Americans the same way

Most of us talk about how we can't wait for Trump to be removed/his presidency to be over but I want to address something else that isn't discussed much: The lasting effects of it all.

Donald Trump's election was a wake-up call for me. A rude awakening. I've always known there was ignorance and hatred in our country but I was unaware of just how large the scale is. While not all Trumpers are like this, it seems the absolute vast majority of Trump supporters are angry, embittered people who wanted a colossal change. They champion his crazy antics as "good things" and love that he's "shaking things up".

While I agree that PC has absolutely choked our country (and YES, it has. It's damned annoying, too)...Donald Trump and his extreme tactics were NOT the answer. All that Trump did was skew us from one extreme side of the spectrum to the other. That's not a solution. Obama wasn't a solution and Trump most definitely isn't a solution.

Our only solution, I fear, is one we'll likely never see: a middle road president. An independent. We need change from BOTH "sides" and we need it soon.

When Donald is gone, I have to live with the knowledge that over 60 million--60 MILLION--Americans were A-OK with the brutal Gestapo tactics of Donald Trump--that many of them were willing to embrace dictatorial tactics to bring about the change they were envisioning...that THIS many people could be so easily duped.

This isn't easy knowledge to live with. It illustrates just how out of control this country truly is. We're bad--I mean WAY worse than I realized. This is a terrible situation. We're more divided than we've been in DECADES. So much so that I'm thinking we either need to find a way to do away with the party system or finally cut bait and just dividing the damn states into two countries and be done with it. Either way, we're in very bad shape.

Donald Trump's election has disenchanted me, really. Think of the amount of hatred, anger and fear it would take for THAT many people to embrace such a dangerous, unhinged and unqualified man.

We're in trouble. I don't know any other way to put it.

reply

It's actually a service that Trump and his alt-right tiki torch bearing supporters have done. Americans all thought we were SO special and SO evolved. We all railed against Apartheid and other cultures when they were based on racial hatred. We all look down on those countries that treat women as property with limited or no rights.

Well, we're NOT special. We're NOT "great again"...because we never were. We all thought we'd made progress in terms of race and gender equality and that the alt-right were just the poor cousins we hid away and dismissed as a lunatic fringe. Yes, they're lunatics, but there are a LOT more of them than we wanted to think.

So....you shouldn't look at your fellow Americans the same way as you did before. Your eyes are OPEN now.

reply

It's both depressing and infuriating though, you know? I feel something I haven't felt in my entire life: in danger. Seriously. We may not be Afghanistan but I sure feel like we're a not-so-distant cousin. There's a damn warzone out there and I didn't see it most of my life.

While I still doubt there will ever be a second Civil War, this amount of division is disheartening and makes me almost not want to even live here anymore.

Did you ever see Beneath the Planet of the Apes? That's how I feel around some Trump supporters. You see these seemingly normal, happy people you've been working around for years and then, all of a sudden, they peel their masks off to reveal their true identities and you see them almost cult-like, talking about twisted things. You just never know about people.

I'd like to think of this as another awakening for our country. 9/11 was a big awakening: destroying our illusion that America was a safe, impenetrable fortress and Trump's election is a wake up call that the 30's-60's not only never left us but are alive and stronger than ever today.

I joke about Trump a lot around here but honestly--it's really not funny at all. I guess I just prefer to laugh at the absurdity of it all but really--it's not like laughing about Bush or Obama...this is serious business. Trump could actually sink us. It's a real possibility. At the very least, he's a big sign that things may get much worse for us. In fact, I'm sure it will. Even if our next president is a democrat who cleans his mess up or some moderate or something--I think there's no putting that genie back in the bottle.

I have an unfortunately true story about this exact feeling. I worked at a law firm years ago (same one where Erin Brockovich worked, and yes she is TALL), and I was friends with one of the paralegals, who had also been a legal secretary for a long time.

This woman was possibly the smartest person in the entire office, and she was very serious most of the time. Extremely professional, always had good ideas. She was highly respected, and for good reason.

This was just a few years after 9/11, with the "fallout" from that still occurring during Dubya's tenure.

This woman decided to comment that the U.S. should just nuke the Middle East, "turn it to glass" as she said, and let it all start from scratch. Reboot the entire region (excluding anything Israel-related, of course).

I chuckled at her dark humor and commented about her "joke" regarding extreme actions.

She then let me know, in no uncertain terms, that she was not joking. She said her statement was literal and 100% serious.

Yes, this whip-smart, respectable woman literally wanted millions upon millions of innocent people to die in nuclear fire simply to purge the small percentage of terrorists that might be in the area.

I lost all respect for her, but luckily she retired a few months later. I also at that point realized that even the most intelligent people might have the craziest, most destructive opinions imaginable.

That was the point I became prepared for the Trump years.

reply

Jesus...

You really just can't tell about people, can you?

I know someone who said the same damn thing...my own brother. And guess what? He's a Trumper. I haven't spoken to him in a decade. The reason why? He made a racist and anti-immigration remark about my wife. Classic Trumper behavior.

Trumpers sure are crazy, aren't they? My God...

You know, I may be an independent but, if I was forced to make a choice, I'd choose a dem president, damn PC and all. At least I don't have to worry about insane sh!t like this from liberals even if I DO hate their uber-PC nonsense.

PS: This part of your post I found especially unsettling: "Turn it to glass". Wow...it sounds like she wasn't just wanting it to happen but was absolutely relishing the thought. She had the "ends justify the means" mentality--a common mentality I've noticed among the Trumper circles.

reply

We dont all look down on countries that treat women as property with limited or no rights. Liberals love their countries and want to flood those types in all the white countries then defend them when the invetiable gang rape parties happen as "cultural differences"

reply

You just.....make things up, don't you?

reply

It's Donald's favorite tactic: when cornered: make sh!t up. He does that a lot.

reply

Go watch Ana Kasparian's thoughts on the Brussels New Years gang rapes. You cant make this stuff up

reply

Ok Donaldteam6

reply

See?

That's the level of intelligence you get from his base.

zero.

reply

True. They've walled themselves off from reality, much like the man they support.

reply

And that is the only wall he'll ever get.

reply

Not true--he could always get a prison wall. :)

reply

I love how the party who dont understand what gender is and are convinced white men commit gang rapes in the street while actively being apologists for muslim men who gang rape in the streets can accuse anybody of walling themselves from reality.

The left lost the election because theyve separated themselves so far from reality that its like a live action South Park episode

reply

Far from reality?!?

Trump supporters: Stupid, racist, incels.

reply

Did Bill Maher teach you that word? Bill is actually a bit of a smarter liberal he isnt a muslim apologist

reply

Conversing with you is a fruitless endeavor. Welcome, my son, to....the ignore list.

reply

Nice name you must be a huge fan of Adam Sandlers Little Nicky and nice profile pic of Cthuhlu in a black hooded robe. You must be a genuinely nice guy with no hate in your body

reply

Bosdog has to be one of the lamest trolls I've ever seen. He's so damn boring that I find myself not even reading his posts anymore when I see them so I'm literally ignoring his posts. He's THAT boring.

PS: I highly suspect that Bosdog an several other posters here are all sock accounts of one guy. They all have similar cadences to this guy and are never online when the other posts.

reply

Can it be as telling as how many americans voted for a man named Barack Hussein Obama who had no birth certificate the next election after 9/11 just because he wasnt white? You want to fight fire with fire the right side can do it much better than you amateur pussies

reply

Can't EVER stay on topic.

Trump supporters: Stupid, racist, incels that have ADHD.

reply

And you Trumpers wonder why most Americans and the world won't give you the time of day...

reply

Well, why give the time of day to someone who can't read a clock?

reply

You know...I wasn't a big Obama fan because I hate most PC and hate the direction it's taking in our country and yet...here I am, wishing we still had him.

I really do hate PC but I hate Trump's way more because his way is...barbaric.

In fact, this is the conclusion I come regarding everything:

-I am against illegal immigration but I find myself rather accepting they come in than to accept Donald's Gestapo tactics to keep them out

-I am against third gender bathrooms but I'd rather see them around then to see Donald's bigotry that condemns them or the religious nuts saying they would burn in hell

-I am against free housing for illegals but I'm against Donald's cruel policies of having them thrown out

You get the picture. We have no middle ground anywhere. NONE.

reply

I get the picture you are a liar

reply

I love that "oh im against everything but the solutions are mean" you are a god damn lie

reply

How so? USE YOUR BIG BOY words. Yuo say things just to say them (and keep doing that...you make our points about Trump supporters better than we do!) but now we're expecting more. Explanations. Thoughts. Feelings. Yes, you'll have to fake it, but you can do it.

Because this nonsense? It's at the intellectual level of the Game Show host telling the press "People are saying..." and "Many people tell me...". Be a MAN and back it up. Or be the child you are and hush up. Grown ups are talking.

reply

Sometimes I wonder if all the Trumpers on this board are really just one or two people with dozens of sock accounts.

reply

This guy is like

"im against illegal immigration but i want them to stay"

"Im against third gender bathrooms (which is actually a good solution but trannies want in womens bathrooms) but i want third gender bathrooms"

"I am against free housing for illegals but i want them to stay in their free housing because a bus ride is cruel"

Then says "Get the picture" yeah i get the picture either he has no idea what he wants and shoudnt be taken seriously or he is just a flat out liar im going with the latter

reply

I said to you a week ago that you don't know what your own position is. You came back with "My postion is that there are two genders whats yours?"

Now you're saying there should be three bathrooms? lol

reply

Rather them hang out in bathrooms with other sexual deviants than with little girls

reply

You still have no idea what your position is. lol. The only solution that would work for you is a third bathroom for little girls since you won't be able to tell which adult women are deviants or not.

reply

I'm not against you and your position. In fact, I side with you and admire you are trying to have a reasonable convo, but I'm getting sick of people pointing to PC as if it's some real issue taking over the country. Political
Correctness is just a correction to what has been decades of white and make privilege. It's part of our human DNA to ride whatever advantage you can, but we are living in a time where we are trying to make adjustments. It's not easy and things can get a little haywire but I really don't see how electing more women and minorities and trying to bridge the income and education gaps is some indictment on Political Correctness.
Hope you don't mind me butting in.

reply

Allow me to clarify--I'm in no way stating that SOME MEASURE of political correctness isn't needed. I'm a middle road kind of person and that applies to PC as well. PC IS needed...in adjusted quantities. It's getting too ridiculous nowadays just the same as many of the Trumper right wing stuff is getting too ridiculous.

I'm not DEAD SET against PC. I'm just arguing that PC should be within reason. It's only fair.

I will give you two good examples of what I'm referring to:

1. Casting races in movies just for the sake of doing so. I'm ALL for diversity. For God's sake, my MARRIAGE is diverse (I'm Caucasian and American and my wife is Asian and originally an immigrant before becoming a citizen). Nowadays, it feels a lot like the producers are going down a checklist and making a point of casting certain races just to say: "OK, we have a white, black, Asian, etc". I feel like it's gotten to an obnoxious and pandering level. My own wife thinks it's ridiculous as well, so it's not just me.

2. Feminism. Basically, my feelings are the same as above. It feels like there is pandering to obnoxious levels in Hollywood nowadays. THey're making a POINT of showing "strong female characters" and it often feels forced and inorganic. Women are being looked upon as "weak" if they are mothers in movies and Princess Leia (a strong female character) is now bashed nowadays because she was a "princess". Ridiculous things like that. My wife also concurs on this point, so it's not just a "guy thing".

I appreciate your reply as it gave me a chance to clarify a point that was muddy in my OP. I'm all for PC, diversity--the works. I just don't want it to be jacked up to obnoxious/obviously-pandering levels.

reply

I keep hearing this over and over again. "Yeah PC is bad but trump wasnt the answer". Then who was? Hillary? The woman that campaigned on nothing more than her fucking gender? Trump is the best we got. And you may think hes an asshole, but hes doing exactly what he promised, which was exactly what we needed. Maybe now he will set the prescendent for that middle road potus you want ao bad, but for now he is exactly what needed to happen. Dont blame the angry populous for his election, blame decades of self interested establishment crooks for it. The world has witnessed a leader that is actually putting the best interest of the people first instead of the interest of power. Would you rather justin Trudeau? A man so crippled by political correctness that he actually had the audacity to correct a young woman for saying mankind and suggested "peoplekind" as the alternative? Because that's the shit that were dealing with now. Extremes.you want a middle road president? There arent any anymore. It's one extreme or the other.

reply

"It's one extreme or the other."

Well, give me the other one, ASAP, and BAMN.

reply

He's doing exactly what he promised?

If that were so, Mexico would be writing a check for a wall, the government would not be shut down and Obamacare would've been replaced by his proposed "better" universal health care plan. Oh, and he wouldn't have been golfing at his resorts so much. All promises he made.

reply

Liberals are so angry about Trumps awesome campaign joke of making Mexicans pay for the wall as if Mexicans really did pay for the wall they would have no problem putting it up and might even grab some tools and help

reply

It wasn't a joke, despite how you brownshirts try and spill it. It was a campaign chat (props to his base for learning a three syllable word) and it was a stated strategy on his website. He talked about it (in all seriousness) in multiple interviews and town halls. It's only when Mexico said unequivocally "No. We're not paying for your wall" that he tried to say he was not serious and took down the part of the website that detailed his "plan".

Only a total idiot would buy into that.

You're not a total idiot, are you?

reply

It was an awesome troll and thats why Trump is so awesome

reply

No it was a lie to the rubes that the rubes bought and that's why Trump is such a known liar and his supporters are such known fools.

But I guess we have the answer to my question to you.

reply

Well at least they are admitting a troll was voted into office. Sounds like the type of character that doesn't deserve to be president and should be replaced with someone who isn't a troll. I'm cool with that.

reply

(I keep hearing this over and over again. "Yeah PC is bad but trump wasnt the answer". Then who was? Hillary? The woman that campaigned on nothing more than her fucking gender?)

I already told you what my proposed solution was. Read my posts instead of just reacting to what triggers you.

( Trump is the best we got. )

If you really believe that then nothing I can say will sway you any differently. I was no Hillary fan myself but she wasn't a psychotic buffoon like Trump is. You know what? I'll live it at that on this point. It's pointless trying to argue otherwise with you on that.

( And you may think hes an asshole )

I don't THINK he's an asshole--I KNOW He is one. You don't treat people the way he has unless you're an asshole and a bully. It is a FACT--not my personal opinion.

( but hes doing exactly what he promised )

REALLY? Like what?

-He promised REPEATEDLY that Mexico would pay for the wall and guess what?

-He promised the middle class would get a tax break. Where is it?

-He promised to "bring the jobs back". Where are they?

-He promised transparency. Off the top of my head, he is keeping several meetings with Putin a secret from even his own cabinet, is refusing to disclose his tax returns, had meetings with Russian officials that were closed to the press. He private meetings with Putin and Kim Jong-Un, etc. Yeah...

-He promised to release his tax returns and is now refusing to show them.

-He promised the government would never shut down on his watch and criticized Obama for allowing it to shut down...now here we are, with Trump's shutdown the longest in history and Trump actively keeping it shut down to try to get his way.

So far, the only promise he's lived up to is deporting illegals.

(which was exactly what we needed)

We needed to be embarrassed on the world stage, pulled out of several world organizations, sold to Russia and isolated like North Korea?

(he is exactly what needed to happen)

Again, I can't sway your opinion and won't try to. I will only say this: would you eliminate a hornet's nest with a bazooka?

(Dont blame the angry populous for his election, blame decades of self interested establishment crooks for it.)

I blame both because the populous should know better. Clearly, I placed far more faith in my fellow Americans than I should have. That's not a mistake I will make ever again.

(The world has witnessed a leader that is actually putting the best interest of the people first instead of the interest of power.)

Wow...you really believe that, don't you? Then I can't help you. You are the exact personification of the type of Americans I'm so disenchanted with now. I feel like I'm talking to some crazy person who's in a trance.

(Would you rather justin Trudeau?)

I know nothing about him at all, so I can't answer that.

(A man so crippled by political correctness that he actually had the audacity to correct a young woman for saying mankind and suggested "peoplekind" as the alternative?)

Yes, that's bad and some of what I hate. But I hate Trump's caveman approach even more.

(Because that's the shit that were dealing with now. )

I know. That's one side of the spectrum I hate...just like the other side of the spectrum.

(you want a middle road president? There arent any anymore. It's one extreme or the other.)

And that's why I'm disenchanted with America.

Your post is depressing, to be honest. It's like I'm not even talking to an actual person. You're so far out there that I'm honestly wondering if even you believe all this crap you just wrote to me.

reply

Why is it that whenever people see through the popular narrative people say they are mentally ill?

I see it everywhere. People on the Friday the 13th PS4 group chat call anybody who actually knows how to play the game instead of working the broken system to exploit all the loopholes they can as mentally ill.

Seen a video of a person saying that the new Resident Evil 2 remake is just Resident Evil 7 with a Resident Evil 2 paintjob and they are calling him mentally ill.

Anybody who doesn't like Red Dead 2 they call mentally ill.

You libbies all call anybody that thinks for themselves and doesn't fall in line with what politicians and celebrities as mentally ill.

Meanwhile you all fight for men to enter women's bathrooms and compete in woman's sports. You are paranoid that white people are out to get you, you all just go with whatever narrative big companies tell so they can milk your pockets but are convinced you are fighting against "The Man".

You all suffer from a type of mass hysteria brought on by your black cube and think anybody who thinks for themselves must be crazy

reply

that THIS many people could be so easily duped.

There is no duping. They are control freaks who WANT a despot in power who pushes their own views.

Of course, a despot would turn against them as well most likely, but they probably can't (or won't) see enough of a long-term view to realize that.

You know if Obama was pushing dictator powers like this, he would have been lynched. Literally, LYNCHED.

reply

Sadly, you're right. On all counts.

reply

i agree well said

reply

Thanks.

reply

Blame the far left PC movement for this. Normal Americans were fed up with that crap and elected Trump, the polar opposite of PC far left.

reply

You haven't posted anything correct on this board yet. Another bland meaningless post that can be ignored.

reply

Amazing...my post went completely and utterly over your head. SMDH.

reply

In some ways America cannot shake our Civil War divisions. It will always be rural v. coastal, working class v. educated, Christian zealots v. everyone else, racists v. everyone else.

reply

You're probably right. I see no end to it. Ever.

reply

You guys are such rebels supporting the government and fighting to maintain the status quo. I wish i could be that cool
