It's easy to judge when you were born in one of the most advantageous countries in the world but empathy means being able to imagine yourself in their situation and what you'd be willing to do to provide for your family. shareMeat-packing plants are just a shade below slaughterhouses as being one of the most dangerous jobs you can have...so basically this company was underpaying these illegals to work at a place that the hazards are high, and also not needing to pay for any occupational insurance for them in the event one of them is injured in an industrial accident. And though it's not mentioned in the article, the company who hired them will probably get away with, what is to them, a financial slap on the wrist in terms of a penalty. To be serious about deterring illegal immigration, the people who provide the work must face stiffer fines and penalties to make it so American workers will be paid justly to do these jobs instead.
