Residents of Houston,Galveston maybe even New Orleans...

Hope he's got your backs. Atleast FOXnews is covering it so he should be aware of the danger you guys face. In all sincerity...LEAVE NOW! Do not stay put or try riding out the storm...many of you WILL DIE! Even the greatest of leaders could not prevent a significant death toll, but if this storm stalls and stays land bound at category 3 levels for the 3-5 days as predicted and at the same time a Katrina style debacle follows...tens of thousands could perish...not worth it! HEAD NORTH!!!

reply

And just what is a president going to do for us. And if your trying to imply we were rooting for him you forget he kocked out our candidate Ted Cruize if your trying to imply we had his back. People seem to forget he only had the support of 1/3 of republicans during the primary and only one cause the media drawned out the other 16 candidates at the time.

reply

Over 30% in a field of over15...that is an unusually high percentage in such a large pool...you must realize that...right? I assume you are from the affected area and hope all is well for you and yours.
The lowest voter turn out for a presidential election in the last 20 year was actually 2000'followed by 2012...2016 was the third lowest turn out...just saying.
The first and most important thing a president can do in a national disaster type situation is in fact
prophylactic. Appoint a competent leader of fema...and it seems Brock is that...at least on paper he's better than Bushs Brown. Besides that there are a host of things from practical to pragmatic that a leader can do during a time of crisis and fortunately for all involved it seems none have become necessary...atleast yet. I guess it could always be worse...we could have gotten your first choice...YIKES!!!

reply

Presidents suck during natural disasters and are useless other then to give pep speeches.

reply

Yeah whatever you say...his speech consisted of him mentioning crowd size...AGAIN! Oh...and he forgot to mention the victims,soooo...

reply

Obama never mentioned the victims as well, soooo....

Two weeks ago, Trump rescinded Obama's Flood Protection Rule.

http://fortune.com/2017/08/30/trump-removes-flood-protection-laws-obama-houston-harvey/

It sounds like Trump could care less about people dying in floods.

reply

If he rescinded, can't he put it back like it was?

reply

I doubt that he will.

Also, I just heard on the news that immigrants in Texas were afraid to ask for help during flood because they were afraid of being deported. Mayor had to reassure them that he would fight for them.

Judge just blocked sanctuary city ban in Texas minutes ago.

Houston’s Shockingly Poor Flood Control System

http://legal-planet.org/2017/08/28/houstons-shockingly-poor-flood-control-system/

Why didn't Obama institute flood control in Houston, after all he 8 years to do so. Did he learn nothing from Katrina? Apparently Obama could care less about Americans dying.

reply

"Why didn't Obama institute flood control in Houston?"

Obama did and Trump rescinded both the Paris Agreement and the measures re: building structures in flood-prone areas.

I live in a newly defined flood zone too (thanks global warming), but my local politicians are creating multiple barriers throughout the city to protect against flooding. Texas is doing the opposite in order to have more real estate development. That's a red state for you - business ahead of people mentality!

Weather extremes and flooding will only become worst meaning multiple disasters with more people dying, catastrophic property damage and costs in the trillions.

My prediction: Eventually, Republicans won't be able to pretend any longer that global warming isn't a result of human pollution and will need to change. Eventually, the public will demand it.

Those Texans who lost their houses and jobs are still required to pay off their mortgages. Wait until they find out how the insurance companies will try NOT to pay them.

reply

Basically you want the US Government to do everything for you. That sounds like Socialism to me. Remember when Texas wanted to secede? Well now they want Federal assistance, weird how that works.

There is 7.4 billion people in the world and about 2/3 of them could care less about global warming. Also I am pretty sure India and China don't care. So thats like 2.5 billion people. In order for this global warming trend to be reversed we need to the entire world to cooperate, but we both know that will never happen. People like yourself will just go on to blame whomever is President for not fixing "global" warming.

My prediction is another person like you will hate whoever is the next President and I will be there to show them how ignorant they are. I had a debate with a fellow for about 2 years on IMDb. He hated Obama. He would post almost everyday about how Obama is ruining our Country. Sound familiar?
Half the Country will always blame the President for everything no matter what party he or she belongs to.

The insurance companies are state run. The Federal Government has no say in whether they pay or not. Although the majority of them will get FEMA assistance.

reply

You're very confused, aren't you? You asked why didn't Obama do anything which I replied that he did which Trump had rescinded. Stay on topic and address why Trump rescinded those actions to help Texas avoid flooding problem instead of changing the subject, making things up and personal attacks.

reply

Its quite possible that English is not your first language so therefore you were unable to comprehend what I was saying. Is there a translation service you can use in your Country?

reply

And once again you avoid answering the question. Why did Trump rescind Obama's attempts to help Texas avoid flooding problem?

If you really liked Trump then being able to defend him would be no problem for you. It sounds like you don't have a clue as to why you voted for him. Brainwashed ideologue is my guess.

Booming Houston built over land meant for flood projects

http://www.mcall.com/news/nationworld/pennsylvania/mc-nws-harvey-houston-paved-20170902-story.html

"The Corps bought land for the two projects and built them in the 1940s after floods inundated downtown.

The Corps' plan at the time also called for a third reservoir in northwest Houston, as well as a levee and two grand canals intended to funnel water around the city and out to the Gulf of Mexico, according to then-local Corps commander Col. Richard Pannell, speaking last year at a Houston town meeting over flooding.

But authorities never put together the money to buy land for the additional flood control. And development quickly made the tracts too expensive to buy for the projects."

“Houston is not known for its planning,” notes Evelyn Merz of the local Sierra Club.

The environmental group went to court five years ago and tried unsuccessfully to block a new parkway on the Katy Prairie to the west of Houston, saying the parkway would draw yet more development and flooding Houston wasn't prepared to handle."

reply

In other words, "...my local politicians are creating multiple barriers throughout the city to protect against flooding. Texas is doing the opposite in order to have more real estate development."

I already stated in my original post the same thing that you wrote. Obama's law was to avoid this type of stupidity throughout the country. Trump rescinded the law.

My prediction re: the inevitable solution(s):
1) As flooding increases with global warming in flood zones like Houston, property values will come down and most people will avoid moving into those areas on their own.
2) Increasing recovery government costs from damage will discourage development in flood zones.

reply

Basically you want the US Government to protect the States from their own stupidity. I am not understanding how Trump rescinding a flood control law would have helped Houston not to flood.

1. Houston is a flood zone because of the incompetency of the local government. They ignored the warnings of the Army Corps of Engineers from the 1940's.

2. There should be no development in flood prone areas. If there is then the local government needs to take the appropriate steps to avoid a catastrophe.

reply

Your question:
"Why didn't Obama institute flood control in Houston, after all he 8 years to do so. Did he learn nothing from Katrina? Apparently Obama could care less about Americans dying."

It sounds like YOU are the one who wants the "US Government to protect the States from their own stupidity."

"I am not understanding how Trump rescinding a flood control law would have helped Houston not to flood. "

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/29/16214558/trump-federal-standards-infrastructure-projects
Excerpt:
"Since 2015, infrastructure projects paid for by federal dollars have had to plan ahead for floods and water damage. But when Houston and surrounding towns start to rebuild after floodwaters recede from Tropical Storm Harvey, they won’t be required to plan ahead for the next big storm."

Obama's 2015 policy won't be followed during rebuilding thanks to Trump. Flooding will only become worst with global warming which will increase thanks to Trump (once again) leaving the Paris Agreement.

Why are you defending a moron president like Trump?

reply

"I live in a newly defined flood zone too (thanks global warming), but my local politicians are creating multiple barriers throughout the city to protect against flooding. Texas is doing the opposite in order to have more real estate development. That's a red state for you - business ahead of people mentality!"

Why would you live in a flood zone? Sounds like you want the Government to do everything for you, do you want them to raise your house up? I am sure Obama could do this for you. Tnanks to Obama flooding is now worse than it has ever been and fires and flooding continue to ravage the US do to poor policy management by Obama.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/houston-flood-history-reason_us_59a2f0e3e4b05710aa5ce9ad

“Houston has basically just grown outwards,” Andrew Dessler, a climatologist and professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A&M University, told HuffPost by phone on Sunday. “As Houston grows out, you’re paving over more and more space and you’re collecting rain over a larger area that’s just hitting cement. It’s got to go somewhere, so it gets concentrated where the elevation is low.”
Houston has suffered more deaths and property loss from flooding than any other locality in the country since 1960, according to data Texas A&M collected. Worse yet, Texas ranks second only to Louisiana in dollars paid in flood claims, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. Plus, the state does not require municipalities to enroll in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Flood Insurance Program.
The last major storm to hit Houston, 2008′s Hurricane Ike, came as what The Atlantic described as a wake-up call. But it failed to rouse urban planners ahead of the storm now ravaging the city.

Obamas' failed policies have not prevented any flooding or fires in the USA. He had 8 long years to correct and fix all the problems but he didn't.

Why are you defending a moron previous president like Obama?

reply

"Why would you live in a flood zone?"

What part of "newly defined flood zone" didn't you comprehend? The first flood was 5 years ago due to global warming. My local leaders are actually creating wetlands and created Obama-like regulations re: rebuilding and new housing. I see houses and stores on stilts now which will be needed because of Trump stupidly pulling out of the Paris Agreement.

Today's French news mentioned him, Houston, Florida and asked why hasn't he changed his mind about The Paris Agreement with all the obvious ramifications of continued global warming. They know he's an idiot.

Why did Trump pull out of the Paris Agreement? Is he going to use taxpayers' money to rebuild Houston, Florida, The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico using practical measures against flooding or do the same stupidity.

BTW, you still haven't defended Trump.

reply

You live in a flood zone yet Obama passed regulations to help prevent floods. Oh the irony!

Spain news also mentioned something about Trump but I couldn't understand what the were saying as I don't speak Spanish. If global warming was actually real I would be upset too that the US pulled out of the Paris agreement. Unfortunately it hasn't been proven to be true yet. The Al Gore movie doesn't count as facts by the way.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_glacial_period

"The last glacial period, popularly known as the Ice Age, was the most recent glacial period, which occurred from c. 110,000 – c. 11,700 years ago. "

If the last ice age ended about 11,000 years ago, wouldn't it make sense that the Earth is naturally getting warmer? How could humans have affected the temperature of the Earth when the industrial revolution only started about 200 years ago? Some scientists just automatically blame humans for the cause when in actuality it could just be the natural cycle of the Earth and we just happen to be living in the time when the Earth is getting warmer. Who would people blame if the Earth was heading towards the next ice age and was getting colder? I am sure we would be at fault somehow for making the Earth get colder and scientists would be trying to find a way to make it warmer cause humans don't like cold weather.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-thawed-the-last-ice-age/

"What Thawed the Last Ice Age?
The relatively pleasant global climate of the past 10,000 years is largely thanks to higher levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide"

Are humans to blame for this as well?

Also you have yet to defend Obama and all his failed policies.

reply

Bubbathegut:

What "failed policies" did Obama make? A good deal of the time he had to almost fight to get anything done because the republicans spent his term fighting him on damn near anything tried to do, or did. Funny how you stupid-a** trumpfheads always conveniently forget that. So if any thing he did failed, it damn sure wasn't always his fault---it was also the fault of the idiot republicans who were more concerned about blocking every damn thing he did instead of seeing how it could help their own constituents in the long run. I'm also tired of you right wingers constantly acting like Obama was the bad guy and trumpf is the good guy who's going to make everything great again, when trumpf has clearly shown that he's nothing but a manipulative, lying bastard who throws a big fit like a spoiled child whenever he dosen't get his way, or whenever someone stops kissing his a** for more than five minutes. And he has yet to pass anything himself worth a damn, because he has virtually ZERO experience to show or even prove that he can do anything worth a damn.

That's not possible. Glitch in website. I don't always get notifications that someone replied.

Scientists have the ability to determine global warming from nature or humans. Oil men the Koch brothers have spent over 100 million dollars to 84 climate denier groups because their 80 billion networth isn't enough money for them. They're the same ones who want to destroy ACA so they get a tax break. they threaten Republican politicians to support an opponent unless their wishes are obeyed. Then you wonder why average people suffer. Stop drinking their kool-aid.

Since 2008, stock market up, real estate up, unemployment down, wages up. You're obviously wrong about the economic recovery. Sorry you're missing it.

Obama's health care policies have millions more with health care who are fighting not to lose it under Trump.

Obama's housing programs, HAMP and HEMP have allowed many people to stay in their homes preventing foreclosures.

Other world leaders & foreigners loved Obama. Don't you remember foreign leaders asking for autographs and selfies when he showed up? U.S. is now a joke under clown Trump, though.

Obama was trying to stimulate the economy - not reduce debt or deficit which is the opposite.

Tesla exists because of Obama's policies. Green energy is the future - not Trump's coal.

College cost went down in my state to $0. You may want to move. LOL.

Based on the website USdebtclock.com, which extrapolates the US national debt in real time based on committed government spending, the debt will be roughly $19.97 trillion when President-elect Donald Trump takes office on Friday.

Thus, the national debt under Obama will have grown by about $9 trillion, or an increase of 86%.

College is only free if you are a minority or if you live in Vermont. I wonder who picks up the bill? The State Government does through subsidies from the US Government. Which comes from higher state taxes. Yea!

reply

"...I pour it out on ignorant people who think one party is better than the other."

You just described yourself. LOL.

I'm disgusted with BOTH parties for running up the debt for decades. Years ago, the Republicans were supposed to be about fiscal responsibility, but that has changed. Trump is no different. And he's bankrupted the Secret Service with his weekly golf vacations. Tweets, TV viewing and golf. No work.

You don't appear to understand how close we came to a global economic collapse in 2008.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_financial_crisis_in_September_2008

Wow! Are you really blaming your divorce on Obama? I still find it interesting that you don't have anything positive to say about Trump.

"College is only free if you are a minority or if you live in Vermont."
That's just plain stupid.

"More than 30,000 people may have signed a petition challenging..."
That's stupid too. It's like signing a petition to challenge that the Earth is round. Scientific reality doesn't change because of a petition.

reply

Again your facts are wrong. Koolaid drinkers think that "their" views are always correct even though facts are presented to dispute such claims. All koolaid drinkers is dog the current President and blame everything that is wrong on them. Fox News did it for 8 years with Obama. And now MSNBC is doing the same thing to Trump.

When people bash one Party I like to point out the other one is just as evil, in fact they are both the same but have different names. Of course I have nothing positive to say about Trump, he has good intentions but has no idea what he is doing. Obama also had good intentions about making my country better but in the end absolutely nothing changed. What people tend to forget is that Congress is the one that creates and passes new laws. If they wanted to make things better they could. But they won't cause they are always intentionally trying to make the other party look bad. The Rep bitched and moaned about the Dem being in charge for 8 years and now its flipped. Now the Dem are constantly bashing the Rep. This is the cycle we are in now and no one wins, especially the American people.

reply

Drinking kool-aid means you believe someone's nonsense. Most ideologues.

I disagree that Trump had good intentions for the American people. He's a sociopath and only cares about himself. I'm amused that people repeatedly beg him to show compassion.

I disagree that nothing changed under Obama. Gays can marry and lives were saved because of ACA. He stopped an impending economic collapse, and saved people's homes with HAMP/HARP, signed the Paris Agreement, denuked Iran, killed Osama Bin-Laden.

You're giving too much power to Congress. You're forgetting that they're afraid of the American people. When you write/phone your representative especially in unison, they do listen because they don't want to lose your vote. The root problem is that Americans are divided as to what they want which is being reflected in Congress. Moderation and compromise are not bad things.

Texas Republicans to Vote on Seceding From U.S

http://time.com/4329172/texas-republicans-vote-secede-secession-texas-nationalist-movement/

http://time.com/4329364/texas-secede-history/

As Texas Republicans meet for their state convention this week, one item on the table would invalidate the very name of the meeting itself: after a run of local resolutions supporting the Texas independence, the party will vote on the question of Texas seceding from the Union.

In my state there is no option for curbside recycling unlike Connecticut where recycling is mandatory. We are years if not decades away from actually solving global warming. I just don't see how you can get the inhabitants of the World on board to actually do something.

reply

But the vote to stay in union won. The actual vote was to bring the debate to the floor but texas voted against even that. IE they didn't even waste time talking about succession. At the time of the vote only 1/3rd of texans believed texas even had the right to succeed. 18 percent of texas reported they wanted to succeed from the union while 75% rejected it, Don't confuse a GOP political stunt as a display of desire to succeed from the union.

reply

But they voted on it, I mean seasoned Rep Politicians actually voted on it. Its just so stupid.

reply

They voted on sending it to the floor for debate. At which point it was rejected. It was a political stunt.

reply

But it was still put to a vote. Somebody actually thought this was a good idea.

reply

And the original statement was. Remember when "texas" wanted to succeed from the union. Texas != "somebody thought this was a good idea". All I ask is people to stop feeding the myth that Texas wants out of the union.

reply

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/04/19/the-texas-secession-movement-is-getting-kind-of-serious/?utm_term=.6fbfcd8063af

"Update: An effort to force a floor vote on secession at the ongoing Texas Republican Party convention came up two votes shy in a committee on Friday. This post has been updated.

Texas Republicans barely avoided having to vote on whether Texas should secede from the United States on Friday."

At a 2009 rally, then-Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) hinted at secession (albeit tongue in cheek; he later made clear he doesn’t support the idea). A subsequent 2009 Rasmussen poll found 1 in 3 Texans think their state has the right to secede, but if it were put to a vote, 75 percent of voters would decide to stay with the United States.

"Tidbits here and there since Perry’s remark hint at a growing movement. After the 2012 presidential elections, the Texas Nationalist Movement reported that its membership had gone up 400 percent and its Web traffic was up 900 percent. Bumper stickers and signs advocating for secession began popping up in the state."

I stand by my original statement again. If you can prove that none of this is true then its a myth, then otherwise it will stand as factual.

reply

I don't value your opinion because the clear majority of texans would never suceed from the union. Most texans are americans first and formost. I don't give a danm about your naivety about Rick Perry's tongue in cheek jokes. I reject your ill informed opinions about this state. Nor am I obligated to "prove" your statements are misinformed and not factual. Even your own evidence shows sucession supporters are in a very small minority. You can fuck off now with your fantasies of a civil war brokering Texas.

reply

Apparently I struck a nerve with my facts. Somehow this always happens, people just give up and throw profanities my way. When you have to resort to name calling you have already lost.

reply

No you insulted my state with your persistant mistatement of fact. Go ahead and think you've won. If it helps you fuck off then so be it. You know nothing of texas you ass.

reply

I had a feeling you were from Texas. They are quite typical of ignoring facts.

reply

Your facts again talk about a minority. I don't give a fuck your from. You continue to insult my state with your assumptions about the minority of my state. Your "Facts" are only talking about the minority which you have exploded in your dumb Bubba mind to represent our entire community. I've already demonstrated that sucession is a minority opinion in this state but you want to pretend a growth of 400% of some miniscuel succession movement some how means the majority of the state.

And being that your name has bubba in it implies your ill educated possibly posting with a beer in your hand if you want to play stereo types. IE change your name if you want to pretend your on a high horse looking down at the good people of my state BUBBA.
