This trailer, even more so than looking at the still pics released prior, reconfirm my notion of this film having the ambience and atmospheric feel of a sci-fi films such as Alien and Prometheus. Like some of the commenters on this YouTube video stated that it's The Abyss meets Alien. Even though this movie was filmed in NOLA, I'm now wondering if the setting is supposedly the Pacific's Mariana Trench, as this trench is nearly 7 miles beneath the surface of the water, the depth at which the crew in Underwater descend down to. A big hearty thanks for posting this link Mody!
shareYou are welcome! I am so hyped this looks better than what i expected and it worth the wait 1000%.
shareUntil I find out more, I guess I'm really going to have to go with the old "suspension of disbelief" adage.
My slight problems with the trailer were when it was said that they would be 5,000 miles from the nearest land and 7 miles down. Then you have to add in the fact that they had to walk along the ocean floor.
Like LL, I know that the deepest part of any ocean on our planet is the Challenger Deep section of the Mariana Trench, which is close to being 7 miles deep. Problem is, the Mariana Trench is not 5,000 miles from land. And the second problem is that there is no way a human being could walk along the ocean floor at that depth, no matter what special suit they were wearing. They would be crushed to death, PERIOD!
So, I'm left to wonder if that earthquake we've heard about opened a new trench in the middle of the Pacific that is 5,000 miles from land, and were the characters walking on a different part of the ocean floor that is way, way less than 7 miles deep.
OR, does that mysterious creature create a different set of physical rules that enables the characters to do what the trailer says they were doing.
I guess only time, and the film itself, will tell.
Oh yeah, LL, when I first saw the trailer I thought that there was no way that 5,000 miles from land and 7 miles deep could possibly happen in the Gulf of Mexico. That's when I realized that NOLA and the Gulf must have just been filming locations and not where the film is supposed to take place.

So like you, I may have a difficult time suspending my disbelief unless, like you mentioned, the mysterious creature will somehow make this possible. I'll go one step further and speculate that perhaps Kristen will be swallowed up by a gigantic creature, unbeknownst to her, and walking around in this creature's belly, mistakenly thinking that she is walking on the ocean floor, 7 miles under the surface. Boy would she be in for a rude awakening when she realizes what she is walking on.
Deep-sea gigantism, a process where certain ocean species increase their size with depth, is a scientific fact. So this may allow us to suspend our disbelief a bit--although I highly doubt there are colossal squids, giant octopuses, deep water stingrays, or other sea creatures who dwell at such depths, that are large enough for a person to walk around in the belly of. But then again, I'm by no means an expert on abyssal gigantism, least to say, have the slightest clue as to what types of ginormous species of sea life live that far below the surface. So I'll eagerly play along, if Kristen's character confronts mysterious creatures of the deep that you and I speak of.
shareRe: 7 miles deep and 5,000 miles from land ... I am now convinced that the voice-over I've been complaining about was taken out of context and was just put at the beginning of the trailer as a means of getting our attention.
I mean, those exterior and interior shots of the underwater facility show a really big facility, something way too large to be able to stand up to the water pressure of 7 miles deep. That bathroom where Kristen is shown brushing her teeth was so large it looks like it could be in a movie theatre or an airport, for crying out loud.
Therefore, for now, I am withdrawing my complaints about 7 miles down. I no longer think that that is where the underwater facility is located. Thus I do not believe that when the characters in the film are forced to walk along the ocean floor, that they will be 7 miles deep. Nor will they be 1 mile deep, as that is more than twice the 2,300 foot depth that LL mentioned. So unless I find out otherwise, I am content to believe that their little stroll will take place at a depth of less than 1/2 mile.
As for the creature, since it seems that he lives in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, do you think he likes poi? ;-)
(Sorry LL, I just couldn't resist)
Well, seeing the comments here referencing how far and how deep, I'm thinking that whatever is awakened is in the deep ocean whatever distance down and from land it turns out to be. Not that the lab is that deep and far as it is so large to have been built so deep, as LL mentions.
shareYeah, Ron, if that were true, it would create a plot hole so enormous it would allow a giant squid, like the one from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to swim right through. Unless this is a superhero movie, or one with supernatural elements, it would be too unbelievable in the minds of viewers who know anything about trying to survive at such depths.

40 years later we get Alien underwater.
Looks promising
