The trailer for UNDERWATER is being released in time of Ready or not or Angel has fallen!!! And it's 2 minute trailer. Releasing a trailer 5 month ahead mean they have faith so hopefully this be good. I can't wait!

Nice! Good to hear. Also, very nice pic of Kristen in that link. :)

Up until this point, the only thing I've seen of Kristen in Underwater thus far are a few still pictures, which I'm not even sure if they'll even be included in the movie. So this is very welcome news Mody. I also want to see if this film has a similar look and feel to Peter Berg's Deepwater Horizon which I felt was a pretty good underwater disaster flick.

This movie seems to have a creature that attack them cause the german title translates to "UNDERWATER it's awake" and when the director used to tweet about it or talk about on insta he included a squid? Emoji. So i am hopeful it be good and honestly it getting a trailer 5 month ahead is pretty cool and is 2 minute means probably disney/fox are confident about it.

The film's information does say that the crew's underwater lab is destroyed in an earthquake, so maybe some kind of creature shows up as a result of the quake.

You mean something along the lines of say, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, one of my all-time fave underwater disaster flicks?

That's what i am hoping! I am honestly so hyped for this (might be in the minority in the fandom) and honestly don't get all the negativity toward it's release date (all of fox some are huge blockbusters had same issue with the release date) but yeah i am hopeful this be a surprise hit.

If you were to go back four decades or so, historically, January hasn't been a very good month for theatrical releases, which I believe is the cause for some of the negativity. But that being said, hopefully this negative trend will change, as there are a bunch of films which I believe are of high quality and that should do quite well at the box office which will also be released in January 2020, such as The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. Other films (i.e., Bad Boys for Life, Just Mercy, The Grudge, Like a Boss, Underwater) should find an audience as well, if they turn out to be as good as advertised.

reply

Most of the negativity is that it went unreleased for 2 years which is kinda don't make sense. It was filmed in 2017 true but in may 2018 there was test screening and the CGI wasn't done meaning post production didn't finish until 2018 and the movie was supposed to come out in fall 2019 as TJ Miller said but after disney purchase of fox the 2019 lineup became crowded and they pushed it to 2020 putting it right after Charlie's Angels that if everything went right might be huge for Kristen. And yeah in recent years every year there have been a movie that does well in January it's no longer the death month imo.

reply

Agreed, Mody, that so much is riding on how well Charlie's Angel's does at the box office, and more specifically, whether mainstream moviegoers are impressed by Kristen's performance in this movie.

LL, one of the reasons why January has become a better month for movie openings as compared with the past is because we now have a three day weekend in January.
For the record, I'm talking about Martin Luther King's birthday weekend, which is a Federal holiday, and in most states, a school holiday as well.
That three day weekend, which did not exist a few decades ago, has become an important weekend for winter movie attendance.
That being said, while Underwater will not open during that weekend, it will open the weekend before.
This should help Underwater in achieving a higher box office take in its second weekend than it normally would have.

Good point Carved. While Ronald Regan signed Martin Luther King Jr. Day into law back in 1983, and was observed by some states starting in 1986, it wasn't officially recognized and observed as a holiday by all 50 states until 2000.

As a case in point, and in support with what you stated, Box Office Mojo lists the films which made the most during the Martin Luther King weekend and the vast majority were released in the 2000s: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/mlk.htm

So hopefully Underwater benefits in the same way by this holiday as these other films seem to have benefited.
