Kristen Stewart as David Bowie

I'm telling ya, there's never a dull moment with our girl.

Here's Kristen at the Met Gala channeling her David Bowie looks and style ...

Man, she looks incredible!

And now, as always, I do believe that it's time to close this post with some very appropriate music videos ...
Space Oddity - https://youtu.be/iYYRH4apXDo
Heroes (live at Live Aid) - https://youtu.be/JFHC6t13hi0

She does that look so amazingly well, so cool and self assured. And yes, she looks great there. Also Cara Delavingne is on the page with a wild hat or headdress. I've been liking some of the roles I've seen her in too.

Because I'm a bit of a sucker for coming-of-age films, Ron, my fave performance of Cara Delavingne has got to be her role in Paper Towns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIF6LnJnVmY

In my opinion, this is Cara's equivalent to Kristen's performance in Adventureland. Two eventual, real-life Chanel beauties who dress down in dramatic fashion to portray multilayered rebellious teen roles in their respective films--although I must say Cara was already doing the catwalk and strutting her stuff for Chanel years before starring in PT.

Yes, agreed. The film Paper Towns was what I first think of when I began to take notice of Cara's performances. And good point, that she and Kristen do seem to have similar mannerisms in their dress, style and cool type personas.

To say Kristen has chameleon looks would be an understatement as she can channel her almost shape-shifting-like ability at will, with the best of them.

I particularly like this this extreme close-up shot of her face: https://www.instagram.com/p/BxJJSQTAfy1/?utm_source=ig_embed

Looking back retrospectively, how cool would it have been had Kristen also done a David Bowie impersonation just as her costar Dakota Fanning did in The Runaways. As if I needed another reason to say "Lady Grinning Soul" is one of my fave David Bowie songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uP2fZdErF84

In my opinion, Kristen at this year's Met Gala, physically resembles Bowie even more than Dakota did in TR--although Kristen did a pretty darned good job becoming the rock 'n roll icon Joan Jett--again reemphasizing her chameleon-like abilities.

Thanks for posting Caved! It's been a bit of a drought for Kristen news besides the usual paparazzi pics over the past few weeks--so this is very welcome indeed.

reply

LL, that is indeed a great close up! Like you say "almost shape-shifting-like ability at will", she seems to be able to show almost any look and do well at it.

reply

To elaborate on why I was particularly fond of that pic, Ron, was that the expressions on her face accentuated her feminine beauty, while in the other pics, she appears a bit more masculine, in my humble opinion. So it wasn't merely the makeup or clothing she was wearing that made her appear more masculine of feminine. Not sure if it's just the camera angle--don't want to rule that out just yet--but it appears she has the ability to switch on and off an androgynous look as she sees fit. Thus, it should come as no surprise why she lands such roles and I'm pretty sure she will continue to be cast in similar roles in the coming years ahead. If Kristen isn't one of the most versatile actresses from her generation, on multiple levels, I really don't know who is.

I LOVE Kristen Bell !! ... Ooops, wrong thread !
I don't know much about History, don't know much Biology, and I don't know much about either Kristen. But Stewart is Trending a lot here, and it's not always complimentary. I try to keep up. Putting the Twilight stuff aside (which is hard to do since this is really where she came to prominence), she seems to take on interesting projects which I always appreciate, regardless of the result.
I think she could def pull David Bowie. Not that she looks masculine (and I think Meryl Streep could star in The Lou Ferrigno Story, as an aside), but Bowie didn't necessarily either. They both have that thin face and great cheekbones. I can definitely see this. And it would be much more interesting than the Freddie Mercury story, imo.

First off, to be totally honest, I rarely watch TV, so I would be lying if I were to claim that I know how Kristen Bell's acting career has matured over the past few years as she has mostly starred in television series as of late. That being said, from the films I've seen Bell star in over the years has convinced me that she is one of the better comedic actresses working in Hollywood. She has been on my radar ever since I saw her in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". She more than held her own in "Couples Retreat", "Get Him to the Greek", "The Boss", "When in Rome", and "Bad Moms".

While Kristen has gone the comedic route in feature films such as "Adventureland" and "American Ultra", a short film named "Cutlass" and as a host on Saturday Night Live, her real passion and forte is starring as a dramatic actress in indie films such as "Clouds of Sils Maria", "On the Road", "Anesthesia", "Still Alice", "Lizzie", "Speak", and "Personal Shopper". She is still known primarily by mainstream moviegoers for her role in "Twilight", which I believe is due to the fact that this was the most commercially successful franchise she has ever starred in and the highest grossing female driven movie franchise in Hollywood history, with a combined box office take of over $3.34 billion worldwide. So I'm hoping she does well in the upcoming Charlie's Angels reboot, so that mainstream moviegoers can judge her acting by something other than just "Twilight".

They both have that thin face and great cheekbones.

I could speak on and on about her striking facial features, yet it would fail to do her beauty any justice. So I thought it better to direct you to a YouTube video containing several of my fave pictures of her which showcases her stunning looks, as a picture is worth a thousand words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C78I97Bgp6E

If I had to put it into words I would have to resort to cliched expressions such as, she takes my breath away or she's so beautiful it hurts. Or... taking a page out of the Zoolander screenplay, Kristen is really, really, really ridiculously good-looking!

Anyhow, it's always nice to chat with someone such as yourself, snepts, who despite not being a huge fan of Kristen, gives her a chance by considering her other performances, not just judging her exclusively by her Bella Swan character in "Twilight" like some do.

reply

Snepts, Twilight gave her huge visibility but Kristen Stewart has a large amount of work both prior to and after that saga. She does some bigger movies but more often tends to do smaller movies with more in depth characters and story lines. She gets great reviews by writers and at film festival reviews for most of this work. While that gives her good, solid roles and positive critiques, the smaller movies means less attention and notice.

As for David Bowie like persona, if you look at her outfits at her many appearances at film festivals, film premieres, and other entertainment events you'll see that she can do up most any type look or fashion quite well. She also does fashion and fragrance/perfume campaigns for Chanel and Balenciaga. She tends to dress very casually but seems to really enjoy taking on fashion when the need is there.

Oh my.
LL, I must confess that I had completely forgotten about that scene with Dakota doing an impersonation of David Bowie singing 'Lady Grinning Soul' in The Runaways.
My only excuse is that that scene did not have Kristen in it! Had she been in it, I definitely would have remembered it.
Yes, it is kind of a lame excuse, but it is the truth nonetheless.

reply

I myself should admit, Carved, that despite both actors having several noteworthy scenes throughout the film, the most memorable ones for me was when Kristen and Dakota shared the screen together, in large part because of their excellent chemistry--almost as if they had a natural affinity towards each other.

A while back I put together this music video where I used some clips of these magical moments they shared onscreen to the beat of "Crimson and Clover": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yNt5_nOKOk

OK, as I promised yesterday on the 'Underwater' release date thread, here's my latest Kristen music cd.
You'll find this one quite different from most of my previous efforts, as the songs are mostly Scottish or Irish in origin.
But after all, Stewart is a Scottish name.

This one's called, Wild Theme
. 1) Mark Knopfler: Wild Theme - https://youtu.be/2NBnBEux1-w (oh how I love this film)
. 2) Loreena McKennitt: La Serenissima - https://youtu.be/m54SmVsQqgc
. 3) Sting: Come Down In Time - https://youtu.be/VG6MMbjxUkM
. 4) Clannad: Of This Land - https://youtu.be/TANXVmO8Df4
. 5) Clannad: Coinleach Glas an Fhomhair - https://youtu.be/_o_oC22fs84
. 6) Dougie Maclean: Gloomy Winter - https://youtu.be/eRW4_aHxJGs
. 7) The Cranberries: Twenty One - https://youtu.be/nzpLMD1xb0Q
. 8) Clannad: The Song In Your Heart - https://youtu.be/3KxM5zHlVBE
. 9) Sinead O'Connor: Sacrifice - https://youtu.be/FWa-aMiqQKE
10) Clannad: Theme from Harry's Game - https://youtu.be/2KpNzalFKPo
11) Kate Bush: This Woman's Work - https://youtu.be/7TupvVpxY_U
12) Dougie Maclean: Caledonia - https://youtu.be/eLYJBU168QQ
13) Clannad: Uirchill On Chreagain - https://youtu.be/VFLE2vN4eSk
14) Clannad: Buachaill On Eirne - https://youtu.be/mcmJaczfR8Q
15) Sting: Why Should I Cry For You? - https://youtu.be/aBKSWd8wuRc
16) Loreena McKennitt: Beneath a Phyrgian Sky (live) - https://youtu.be/ltqnfHulQQM
17) Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms - https://youtu.be/mfmWvfU3dNw

Btw, the version of Sting's 'Why Should I Cry For You?' that I burned on this cd was taken from the bonus tracks that only iTunes has on his 'Symphonicities' collection.

Finally, I must add that I sure wouldn't mind if LL would one day use one (or more) of these tracks on a future Kristen music video that he makes.

I admit she looks like she finally took a bath, which was a problem for quite a few years. But to say she is channeling David Bowie is kind of showing your ignorance. At most she was trying to get a Ziggy Stardust vibe, though honestly it has more of a Madonna meets Cyndi Lauper while trying to be Annie Lennox look to it... If her goal was to be like the Ziggy character she missed it by a mile. Simply doing kool-aid hair colors and 70's eye shadow doesn't equate to Ziggy.

reply

I don't think it would work. Bowie was never as manly looking as Stewart.
