It's Sundance time!
The 2018 Sundance Film Festival has opened -- 'Lizzie' will premiere Saturday morning, January 21st at 8:30AM and have its second showing on Friday, January 26th at noon.
That 8:30AM time kind of surprised me, but I guess sometimes that's how things are at film festivals.
Variety had the following to say regarding Twitter, 'Lizzie' and Kristen ...
"According to data released to Variety by Twitter, since Sundance kicked off on Thursdays, the top three tweeted-about films are 'Blindspotting,' 'Lizzie' and 'American Animals.'
... 'Lizzie' stars Chloe Sevigny as Lizzie Borden in a psychological thriller based on the infamous murders of the Borden family. ...
Per Twitter, the most tweeted-about celebrities from Sundance, so far, are festival founder Robert Redford and Kristen Stewart, who co-stars with Sevigny in 'Lizzie'."
I also just read an interesting interview in Filmmaker magazine with Noah Greenberg, who was the DP on 'Lizzie'. The thing that struck me most was that they shot 231 scenes in only 23 days.
In addition, I really liked the answer to these two questions ...
Filmmaker: What were your artistic goals on this film, and how did you realize them? How did you want your cinematography to enhance the film's storytelling and treatment of its characters?
Greenberg: We wanted the film to be visually elegant and ominous, with strong formal compositions, contrasted at times by intimate handheld work, and natural lighting that relied heavily on practical sources. Characters are rarely at the center of the frame, but rather pushed to the edges allowing the environment to dominate. We also made extensive use of reflections and foreground obstructions, layering the space and weaving the characters into their environments. Likewise, the light was allowed to fall off dramatically from windows and other practical sources. These choices collectively reinforce the escalating tension and isolation of the protagonists that underpin the narrative of the film.
"Visually elegant," yet "ominous." Sounds oh so cool.
