'Lizzie' to premiere at 2018 Sundance Film Festival

So it's back to Utah for Kristen this coming January as Lizzie will have its premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.

Lizzie
Director: Craig William Macneill
Screenwriter: Bryce Kass
Producers: Naomi Despres, Liz Destro

Official synopsis: Based on the 1892 murder of Lizzie Borden's family in Fall River, MA, this tense psychological thriller lays bare the legend of Lizzie Borden to reveal the much more complex, poignant and truly terrifying woman within -- and her intimate bond with the family's young Irish housemaid, Bridget Sullivan.

Cast: Chloe Sevigny, Kristen Stewart, Jamey Sheridan, Fiona Shaw, Kim Dickens, Denis O'Hare

Why it's one to watch: Sevigny and Stewart as lovers in a period thriller based on [one] of the most notorious murders in American history? That's more than enough for a long walk in the snow.

I've lost count of how many times Kristen has journeyed to Utah in January for Sundance, but I do know that it all started when 'Speak' (the film that made me a fan of Kristen) had its premiere in January, 2004.

So nice, again one of her films makes it there regardless of her having a big or small role. This is what I like most about the types of movies she often does, that they're more artsy, gutsy or thought provoking in some ways that they're considered for these film festivals.

One of the things I admire most about Kristen as an actress is that she's much more concerned about the quality of a role than about the meager pay for starring in micro-budget films. For this reason, most A-list actors, and B-list stars for that matter avoid ultra low-budget indies altogether. Sometimes she gets criticized by her naysayers when her films don't do particularly well at the box office, yet even this is a result of her choosing projects primarily for the role itself. For example, the vast majority of small budget films that do well at the box office are either in the horror, religious or documentary genres. One noteworthy exception to this rule is micro-budget dramas that are considered to be of very high-quality, which are quite rare as top end actors, directors, and technical crew would much rather hone and use their talents in bigger budget, Oscar-bait type projects. So I too am thankful that Kristen chooses to star in such films primarily because of her love of acting, for if she didn't, we wouldn't have seen her churning out critically praised performances in films such as Clouds of Sils Maria, The Runaways, The Cake Eaters, Camp X-Ray, The Yellow Handkerchief, and Personal Shopper.

Right, many of these type films aren't going to be the big money earners, but aren't necessarily expensive to make. They're often more about human interest story lines and/or personal conflict which don't require huge budgets but quite often the story line has so much going for it for those interested in such films.

Major news has seemed kind of quiet but Kristen has at least three films out this year - JT Leroy, Lizzie, Underwater. With maybe Charlie's Angels remake in the works. Kristen keeps busy anyways though. She likes to write and probably tries her hand at movie scripts and story lines, along with fun stuff. It'll be interesting to see how much she gets into other aspects of movie making over the next few years and then longer, whether it be directing, writing, etc. along with acting.

There's still of course the paparazzi stuff which I don't check out very often, but I did notice that Kristen still seems to have her bodyguard JB working for her.

Yes Ron, it has been awfully quiet as JT Leroy and Underwater are still in post-production so it will be a while before these films are released in theaters. Thankfully Lizzie will have its world premiere at Sundance in a little over 2 weeks from now, so at least we'll be getting some critics reviews then. As far as pap pics, even these have become fewer and further between--it's almost as if Kristen has gone completely off the grid. Perhaps she's choosing to be a shut-in, for the time being, locking herself in a room to work on a secret project of some sort, maybe a screenplay like you mentioned or simply taking a break from her hectic schedule. Of course, I'm merely speculating about this for I am neither psychic nor do I live in Los Feliz California.

Regarding 'JT Leroy' (which might just be released as 'JT') and 'Underwater', I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that 'Underwater' will be released sometime this summer and that 'JT' will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. After all, a small part of the film was shot at last year's Cannes Film Festival.

The worst part of my prediction is that 'JT' will get picked up for distribution by IFC, who will, just like they did with 'On the Road,' 'Clouds of Sils Maria' and 'Personal Shopper,' not release the film until March or April of the following year.

Yeah, I know that patience is supposed to be a virtue, but the way IFC distributes Kristen's films has been just plain abysmal.

In closing, just let me add ... Happy New Year everybody! Hope it's a healthy one too.

Patience is fine, but when things become too much then patience loses out. So I hear ya.

Happy New Year to all! Wishing a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018 to all. :)

"She uses an axe you know"

Right, the Lizzie story would likely be a bit gory. It's not a feel good story. ;)
