Yesterday, Kristen was one of 774 who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures as a voting member. This will bring the total number of Oscar voters to 8,500.

This is most interesting, not to mention surprising (to me at least), news indeed.

This is unexpected but the Academy is trying to diversify with more women and minorities and now have 8,500 voters, so maybe it's not so surprising that Kristen has been invited. I had no idea there were already over 7,000 voters. I think we've often criticized the votes for awards for things like going to the same people or for over looking some positively critiqued films or over looking some films and actors entirely who have done some good works.
shareI'm wondering if the AMPAS membership rules have changed since to my understanding, the only way to become a member in the past was by invitation, either by earning an Oscar nom or by being sponsored by two members of the same branch. So either the rules have become more lenient as far as admitting new members or lots of AMPAS members decided on sponsoring prospective members considering the sheer amount of newly added members this year.
Anyhow, great news even though the Academy still has a ways to go before their voting process becomes more democratic and as women only comprise 28% of the membership while minorities are still vastly under-represented as they account for only 11% to 13% of the membership.
don´t worry about it...snl's leslie jones was also invited......oscar don´t mean anything anymore.
