I think the plan was to be covered and not noticed on camera. He blamed two white guys. The fact that they're black is a misdirection and the three of them could live happily ever after.

The fake attack was near a camera, as Jussy pointed out to police. That's why police were suspicious. The camera was pointing in opposite direction though.
