The best villain- ever played

True he had a script...but he did an awesome job of walking the tightrope of insane and truly evil, you could laugh at his mannerisms (Moriarty) but then you realize this is true insane evil- if this guy was your enemy... You would have no idea what he'd do next. Bravo, awesome performance and terrific writing.

This guy is so annoying and he OVER ACTS to such an extreme it's pathetic. Truly pathetic. He really tries to make us believe HE is a villain? I have known villains and he isn't one.
He's an idiot and I'd book him into indefinite protective custody for eternity.
This guy's accent is all over the place and he just ruins what should be a great part and takes a hatchet to it with that over blown smarmy voice he uses! Maybe if he takes it down 10 notches he could do something with this role but I doubt it.

He played the part true to the books.

I agree with indialm. His take on Moriarty is just silly, and not in a fun, enjoyable way. But looks like I'm in the minority there.

I must say that I initially found him forced and over the top... Until that scene in S2 Ep3, in the SUN-reporters flat, where he pretended to be Rich Brook, and suddenly just seemed completely normal....just to switch back to insane'o mode later on. THEN he became really scary - for me.

-If made by George Lucas, this would have been re-released 3 times - and be mostly cgi.

I hesitate to say best but is my absolute favorite :) He is so fun to watch.

I wasn't a fan of his performance in the first season either but to call the man an idiot for doing his job? Sorry but you're the god damn idiot. He's an successful actor about to take on a huge role in the next Bond flick. You're some keyboard warrior no one but (maybe) your mother cares about.

I was of the impression that that is why he is able to stay a step ahead of Sherlock... just like Irene Adler, Sherlock cannot get a proper read on the guy. It's what makes him a great villain... and the ultimate foil to SH

He bugs me on Sherlock. Hammy overacting. Tries too hard and makes it silly and laughable when it should be disturbing.

I'm not happy that they put this guy in a Bond film, and I just hope that it's a small part.
