He directed three nice British films (Shooting Fish, The Abduction Club, The Best Man) then went off to America and did TV series.
I just happen to have rewatched these old favourites recently and realized they had the same director so now I'm wondering why he stopped making films.
Maybe TV pays better? Maybe it's less hassle? Maybe there is a lot going on that doesn't show up as IMDb credits?
Just being nosey I guess but it's surprising how often you look up the director (or other roles) of old but we'll remembered films to find they appear to have stopped working or moved on to something else.

From what I understand about the British film industry is that it is very limited in scope when compared to the behemoth that is Hollywood. Perhaps Stefan just figured he'd be better off making a name for himself State-side with the hopes of getting financing for a home-brewed movie production back home?

Quite possibly. When British filmmakers talk about their work it often includes the struggle to pull everything together and find the money.
