Why hasn't he got better roles?

I think he can do better than the tv roles like blood ties and being human. Like Hollywood movies , or is this something he prefers (the tv scifi/fantasy roles)?

I can't speak for him but I'm speculating that as bad as the economy is-Maybe he's taking roles that will keep him employed?? Don't know if you're aware of it or not but he will be one of the co-stars on BBC America's Copper which premiers this August 19, at 10:00 p.m. No sci-fi present on Copper. Plus he just finished a movie called Dark Hearts but I don't believe it's seen distribution yet.

COPPER is BBC AMERICA’s first original drama from Emmy®-winner Tom Fontana, Academy Award®-nominee Will Rokos, Academy Award®-winner Barry Levinson and Christina Wayne. Set in 1860s New York City, the 10-part drama centers on Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones, MI-5), an intense, rugged Irish immigrant cop working the city’s notorious Five Points and up to the contrasting worlds of elegant Fifth Avenue and an emerging African-American community in rural northern Manhattan. COPPER premieres Sunday, August 19, 10:00pm ET/PT.

He certainly has the talent to carry off larger roles, I just think he hasn't been lucky enough to get the right people to take notice of him maybe? A lot of us are hoping that Copper will take off for him and that he'll be offered better roles.

Being Human is also giving him good exposure to US fans that otherwise never would've heard of him. A lot of BH fans clamored to keep him on for season 3 as he's becoming a fan favorite as Henry. I think from here and his other show it could open doors for him as his fan base grows but as mentioned he's probably playing it safe.
