Sad news, only 67

Sad news, always liked him. They don't tend to live to a ripe old age, eh?

reply

Yeah, it's a shame. I liked him as Lily Savage but ended up preferring to see him as himself on TV.

reply

That's very sad. I liked him. And although I'm not one for drag acts, I found his Lily Savage very funny. RIP

I enjoyed his books, especially the second and third ones about his life and career in the 1970s and 1980s. He was hilarious.

Rest in peace, Paul.

He truly seemed like a genuine and decent guy.

Although I didn't really watch any of his shows, I think the world is poorer without him. He was clearly standing up for the right things (e.g. attacking the Tory austerity cuts, and doing decent things in his personal life, including his vast charity work, and ensuring that jobs within his TV shows were advertised as job centres, so that *everyone* had an opportunity to apply), and there was no phoniness about him.

RIP.

I met him a couple of times many years ago now. He was a friend of a friend of the family. We'd occasionally bump into each other at events. And he was pretty much exactly the same person off-camera as he was on it (as Paul that is, not as Lily), and I think that's what made him popular.
