This good, you're getting into Brando territory. Oh, and about his voice

So when will the Film Oligarchs give him the recognition he deserves?

And about his voice:
I think many of you who are critical/sensitive/appreciative of his voice haven't really examined his performances. He's perfected such a diverse range of vocal stylizing it's almost breathtaking to watch, and nowhere is that more arresting than when his voice is creepy (not least of which because he can switch it on abruptly).

The fact that he can turn on a dime and summon these different vocalizations when you weren't expecting it is what's so fascinating to watch. When Jonathan Demme sat down with Anthony Hopkins to explore how best to frame his first meeting with Clarice Starling, it was Hopkins who came up with the idea to have Hannibal standing rigid in the middle of his cell with only his eyes following her approach. Anyone seeing that for the first time will never forget it because it's creepy as hell.

Peter Sarsgaard has that same genius for appreciating what will make you feel uncomfortable, and like any artist his vocal style is one of the tools he uses (another being his body, which I could write a page about).

He's the real thing alright.

I was lucky enough to meet him last year and told him he was robbed of an Emmy for The Killing. He replied with " that stuff isn't important". He said it so calmly & self confidently that I believe him

I think he deserves more recognition for his work but a fair number of great actors never got an Oscar. When Julia Roberts got hers over Ellen Burstyn I stopped taking the Oscars seriously.
