Could someone explain....

Why do people in their twenties think a millionaire septuagenarian -- who'll be an octogenarian before he finishes his first term -- understand their needs? I'm talking to the folks who think "Okay, Boomer" is enough of a response to shut down an argument.

reply

They are the same needs that have been going on for many decades.

reply

because his age or his current economic situation don't effect his policies and beliefs......

Also the things appealing to these "people in their twenties" (even though Bernie has brand support) are things he has supported for over 40 years. Bernie hasn't changed. People in the dems (much like republicans who went to Trump) feel like their party has ignored them, become puppets for corporations and only fights for half measures if it ever fights for them at all.

Many Americans have realized that the lie of "how can we afford this" only applies to basic social services they can easily afford and many other countries have. there is no concern about fiscal responsibility when it comes to expensive wars or handouts for politicians corporate buddies. People are sick of being treated worse than corporations and demanding very basic social services.

you seem to be triggered personally by young people... who hurt you? your simplistic child like view is kind of sad.

reply

Thought some older people, esp. tbhe bo0omers, on down, hated Vietnam war and such..

reply

they very well be. doesn't change the fact that the OP is clearly triggered and threatened by younger people

reply

I’m not threatened by younger people. A lot of my online friends are much younger than myself. It’s just that the “Ok, Boomer” or “Ok, Karen” nonsense is simplistic and sad. It’s gross generalization and prejudice based on ageism. Besides, childish names are the sorts of things Trump reverts to when he hasn’t an argument. Name-calling always indicates a lack of argument, frankly.

I just wondered why folks who dismissed “Boomers” embraced a fellow who got rich in public service and made Boomers look like spring chickens. As for “needs” or “basic social services,” I could say that housing is a basic need, so everyone needs to pay off my mortgage. Food is a basic need, so you need to pay for my food. Higher education is a basic need, so you need to refund me all the money my parents and I paid for my education years ago. We can do this all day. Once upon a time, people went to college on the G.I. Bill, which essentially meant they worked for it. Or their parents saved for an education, knowing that their child might want to go to college one day. As a fellow pointed out to Warren, he saved for his daughter’s education and now she has no college debt. Does he get reimbursed? Warren initially said no. Then she did a tap-dance. No one’s asked Sanders. And he gets pretty vague when asked where the money for all his promises is going to come from. “Eventually, you run out of other people’s money,” as Thatcher said.

Of course, as you’ve probably guessed, my friends on social media tend to be working, paying taxes, and doing things the old-fashioned way.

reply

this was another embarrassing comment omg. yess a;; those young people aren't "working, paying taxes, and doing things the old-fashioned way."

can all you do is throw around Fox News propaganda? please go away you sad sad loser

reply

I pointed out that people got their college paid in days past without having to penalize the people who'd saved for their children's education, and you see that as an "embarrassment" without actually making an argument against it -- just that you feel it's repugnant somehow.

Feelings aren't an argument.

Suggesting that prospective students take a couple of years off and serve their country in some capacity in exchange for college seems like a reasonable enough suggestion rather than the illusion of free everything that you're going to have to pay off eventually in higher taxes, if your "free" degrees enable you to get upper-middle class jobs. But no one seems to realize that professors and college presidents, etc., are pulling down outrageous salaries, and that those salaries are one of the major reasons why tuition has gone through the roof. They should be willing to take a cut in pay to make college more affordable for you kids.

Of course, not everyone really should go to college. A lot of people have accepted that, gone into the trades, and by the time it takes someone to get a doctoral degree they're making good money, have started a family, and are paying on their first house.

BTW, these are the sorts of young people I was referring to who are my friends on social media,"working, paying taxes, and doing things the old-fashioned way." I wasn't saying that all the youth are living in mommy and daddy's basement with their hands out while they roll their eyes and say, "Ok, Boomer!" if they're asked if they've gone looking for a job yet. Many are brilliant, hard-working folk who, whether with or without a degree, know how to use logic and grammar in a way that seems beyond you. But maybe that "loser" logic and grammar are too old-fashioned for a winner like you. 😉

ill answer your embarrassing post of misconceptions and Fox News lies.

its not penalizing. just like how unemployment insurance wasn't 'penalizing" anyone who had money aside for when they were unemployed, or how free the various pushes in the late 1800s and early 1900s to enact universal secondary school didn't penalize parents. Society determined these things should be social goods. Im sorry you FEEL like constantly having to frame things as being the victim. even social progress.

but your logic we could never in history introduce any sort of social programs and aid because anyone previous to them was "penalized" for paying for it themselves.

No one has every said they are free. i'm sorry in your simplistic view those "damn socialists just want everything free" but come back to reality. a post secondary education is almost mandatory now to get a decent job in the economy. so basically by not providing it you are saying "oh sorry only the wealthy get them. or else you have to go into horrendous debt or the meat grinder." yes Harvard and Yale and all those schools only the rich can afford to go to. hence why America is a plutocracy.

who said progressives plan would only pay for a doctorate in English? of course the trades would be included. which can also be quite expensive.

Ohh and here we go. the last vestiges of a pathetic losing mind in a debate "know how to use logic and grammar in a way that seems beyond you". When you can't actually argue, nitpick grammar and spelling on an online MovieChat website lol.

Again. you are a sad pathetic loser. this is what happens when you mix low iq, Fox News misinformation and the entitlement of thinking they deserve more than other peoples families and kids.

I glanced at whether you could be bothered to have consistently good grammar, and no. Facts and logic are also rather shaky. You missed the problem Sen. Warren had answering the question from the father who had started saving for his daughter's college the day she was born, and asked Warren if he'd get reimbursed. When she said no, he countered that she was penalizing people who'd done the right thing. That points out the problem with free college and cancelling student debt. And yes, a quick Google will show you that there are candidates that want free college and to cancel -- read "make taxpayers pay for" -- student debt. According to Vox (not a conservative source, last time I looked) one of those saying it is none other than Bernie Sanders. Vox was just the first of many. You can look it up.

Please educate yourself.

Oh, did you notice that the DNC seems to be in a panic over the possibility of Bernie taking over the Democrat Party? They stacked the deck against him last time, and they're trying to do it again. I hope he does win the Primaries and is the nominee at the Convention. 😎

Stop calling everything you disagree with "Fox News propaganda". I WILL REPORT YOU!

The OP's arguments are classic liberal, you are an irrational socialist. Anyone who gets useful college degree can pay for it with their good salary.

lol wait who are the fragile snowflakes again? LOL

"The OP's arguments are classic liberal, you are an irrational socialist. Anyone who gets useful college degree can pay for it with their good salary."

lol the classic liberal argument addresses that a millionaire can't represent poorer classes?? you don't even know what classic liberalism is. If anything this would fall under a marxist class warfare or progressive framework.

you didn't finish high school did you?

yes as someone who has owned businesses, invests in the stock market, thinks some corporations do a fantastic job and the government should stay out of MOST and many industries, im a socialist?

hahaha seems like you didn't even finish high school LOL

reply

Human needs don't change much.
