I'm not even making this up!

I have just seen that I'm banned from TV Tropes for defending JK Rowling!
Seriously!
And I never even mentioned the word "transsexual" or said one word about transsexual people.
But I calmly expressed my support for JK Rowling and explained that everybody can't feel the same way.
But that is appearantly enough to trigger people, who do what they can to silence people and call us "bigots".
And yet, they are doing the hating.
Not me and not JK Rowling.
Yeah, I have known for a long time that the site had a notable pro-LBQT bias.
And I was even aware that some people on that site have a huge stick up their butts about some things.
But still, I believed that they were better than this.
How wrong I was...

What is TV Tropes?

reply

Since I boycott them now and refuse to link to them, you have to google it.

reply

Thanks, but I’m not that interested. I will join your boycott of them.

reply

I'm in.

reply

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. "I have no idea what you're talking about...but whatever it is, we should ban it!"

Cue that "AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!" song from Team America: World Police.

reply

How do people get so messed up that they choose to twist words so they have an excuse to insult strangers on the internet. I have never heard of TV tropes, have never been there and have no interest in googling it or going there. If someone tells me they are boycotting mt everest or boycotting swaziland, my response would be the same. Never been there, never going there.
If it gives you kicks to insult strangers, that’s just sad.

reply

Ha, sorry I clearly hurt your feelings. Welcome to the internet. However, you again pretty much stated 'I don't understand something, but I will still boycott it.' If I told you Burger King banned all males from eating their food, and assuming you were too lazy to check out a confirming website or source yourself, would you just blindly listen to me and start boycotting Burger King? That's essentially what you're doing here. You're admitting you have never heard of TV Tropes, do not care to investigate it, nor to do any research on the topic, yet you will still boycott them over something a guy on the internet said?

I'm sorry if being logical is 'insulting' to you.

reply

I was about to ask the exact same question

Now, that is probably not far from the truth at this point.

TV Tropes is a website the documents the different tropes (repeated things in tc shows, movies, books etc) that occur in tv shows films and books.

Examples include the "action girl" who is the woman that is as badass as the men. Then you have to "action dress rip" where the action girl rips her dress before getting into a fight.

In essence it is a site that describes all of those things that happen all the time in film that we seem to notice.

reply

Thank you.
I rarely watch TV. So, I doubt I’ll go to that website.

reply

It is about movies, literature, comic strips, animation and every kind of media as well.
Not that it matters to me anymore... :(

reply

Sounds like a boring site. Moviechat is better.

reply

I liked it. But if they don't want me, they won't see me crawling back.

reply

Actually it is a very interesting site.

I have not been on the forums but the main site is very interesting. It is full of rabbit holes. You start to look at one trope, see the shows its in then you look at those shows and find other interesting tropes and you are in the rabbit hole.

#IStandWithJKRowling

reply

If I had a Twitter account, that would be my next step.

reply

dont go there!
ive just seen the twitter thread in question, my first close look at twitter.
What a stupid format , filled with shrieking idiots.

I know thats partly the subject matter and the participants but the actual mechanics of twitter looked a shit way of holding a discussion

reply

I see... Well, I had no plans to join Twitter anyway.

reply

Women rights have gone such a long way that now men are better women than women themselves lol.

reply

Good thing I never signed on with an account, geeze! It's one thing to visit the site and ignore those "you can't see this for free forever" BS pop-ups; it's another to find out how intolerant the community is inside there.

reply

You're saying YOU are tolerant?

Ok.

reply

I like TV Tropes for its library of tropes in cinema and TV and I've heard about the politics on that site so I can only imagine what the forums must be like under authoritarian rule, I'm guessing it's the message board equivalent of the Reddit community.

reply

I did not even know there was a forum.

reply

There's a forum alright, but it turned out to be a cesspool.

reply

I used to love its library of tropes too. But now, that part of my life is over.

reply

Just reset your IP address and join up again with a different email. Then make sure you swear fealty to Che Guevara, Lenin, Trotsky, and Cher/Madonna/Gaga. Quote basketball players like they are ancient philosophers now and then and you might escape crucifixion. Then enjoy the tropes.

reply

Nah, I'm done with them.

reply

I kind of like it, but the site also drives me mad over the countless omissions in the 'examples' pages...

reply

Liberalism is a mental disorder. They love you as long as you're in lock step. If you deviate, "tolerance" disappears.

reply

Actually, this is not Liberalism. This is left-wing progressivism gone mad.

reply

True. I stand corrected. :)

reply

Update: TV Tropes is down, and there's no way to know when it will be back :(

reply

I'm sorry if I sound childish now, but it serves them right.

reply

You weren't being childish, they were. It feels like all the current 20-30-somethings have turned into a bunch of angry 5-year-olds who will kick out of their little clubhouses anybody they don't agree with, without any explanation or discussion, and stubbornly refuse to let the offender back in. No forgiveness allowed.

reply

Update: TV Tropes is back.

“ I just calmly expressed my support for JK Rowling on this issue, and explained that everybody can't feel the same way.
But that is appearantly enough to trigger people, who do what they can to silence their opponents and call us "bigots".
And yet, they are doing the hating. Not me and not JK Rowling.”

Oh, they are total gaslighting, woman hating and mean, mean, mean on the pro trans sites and boards.

And there are many gay people who do not accept their ideology. If a gay man doesn’t consider a “man” who has a woman’s body a potential sex partner based on the fact that “he” has a female body, he is considered a transphobic bigot and gets shut down by the major sites too. It happens all over Reddit. Same goes, of course, for lesbians. If they won’t consider sucking “lady dicks” they are transphobic bigots as well.

And rarely, if ever, do any of them have anything of value to say. They can’t respond critically to the literature they oppose because they don’t even read it. The most common insult is to tell women to suck their “lady dicks.” How womanly, right? They call us the filthiest names imaginable for us daring to state our beliefs on who and what we are. And they call us mean.

Check out the #AskDanielRadcliffe on Twitter and you’ll see thousands of witty and relevant questions by women asking him about the female body. You will be hard pressed to find anything hostile from any of them, yet the trans guys are vicious with absolutely nothing of value to offer.

reply

And according to one person on TV Tropes, it is okay to hate people who "hate" somebody else.
So I asked if they meant that there is "good hate" and "bad hate".
Of course, nobody answered.
But that is clearly what some people believe.

reply

Hah! Of course they don’t answer a logical question that exposes them. There was a trans guy on Twitter calling us mean “shitbirds” for agreeing with Rowling. I pointed out to him that the only hostility I had seen came from people calling us foul names for making gentle and intelligent responses. Of course he ignored it.

This will all backfire on them. They’re media darlings now, but wait and see what happens.

reply

You mean like when you totally avoided addressing this question in another thread on this page:

"Can you honestly say you'd think a heterosexual male predator is going to go through years of transitioning to commit crimes in bathrooms? These guys are primarily misogynists who wouldn't even entertain dressing as a woman, let alone becoming one."

reply

As I understand it, nobody has claimed that the predators have pretended to be transsexual otherwise.
Like I don't think that they try to look or act like women or wear women's clothes at all.
However, no one has any right to stop anybody from entering their chosen facilities in some places.
So a predator can just walk into a women's bathroom and commit their crimes.

reply

That's not been part of the narrative at all - it's been quite succinctly "men will pretend to be women in order to get into a woman's bathroom."

reply

Nah, it is more like some men will just walk into women's facilities and can't be stopped.

reply

“ As I understand it, nobody has claimed that the predators have pretended to be transsexual otherwise.”

I don’t know about pretending but that will surely happen if men are allowed into women’s restrooms bc predators gonna prey.

There was a sub on Reddit called It Happens or something like that and it posted round the clock tales of the violence committed by trans men all over the world. Of course it was removed because that’s so unfair to the violent trans people. They weren’t saying trans men are more violent than non trans men and neither am I.

reply

Sure you're not.

reply

The sites like Reddit are notoriously intolerant of any view that deviates from what the woke warriors embrace. The irony of the idiots protesting for tolerance while being the most intolerant idiots on the planet would be funny if it weren't same damned annoying.

reply

Well, they can be even dangerous if they make it illegal to disagree with them.
