I hope he starts making good movies again

I don't care what anyone says about Eli Roth being a bad director. Cabin Fever, and Hostel 1&2 were great movies. But everything seemed to go downhill since he directed The Green Inferno. I hate to think that he's lost his passion for filmmaking. I hope he bounces back and starts making good films again.

He's making borderlands, hopefully that turns out good.

assuming it's rated R

"Cabin Fever" was great? That's news to me. While it has some positive elements -- like Cerina Vincent, the North Carolina backwoods cinematography, a couple of amusing parts and the end-credits song -- it's not horrifying at all because it's pretty much a big joke, although it's sometimes gruesome, if that's your thang. Meanwhile the overkill cussing of the protagonists gets old real quick (please notice I said "overkill").

That's your opinion.

Good answer. The flick obviously has its fans & points of interest and that can't be taken away from it. I've seen it 2-3 times (because I own the DVD); it just turned me off for some reason. It's decidedly black humor and I suppose you just have to roll with it to 'get' it and appreciate it.

Do you think Hostel suffers the same issues? I’d take the silliness of Fever over the dreary Hostel, cause either way you’re getting something stupid.

reply

I never saw "Hostel," but have seen the second one and think it's very good for its genre.

reply

The first Hostel is a must see. The sequel was surprisingly really good though.

reply

Thanks, I'll give it a watch.

reply

I've seen horror films nowadays, much, much stupider.

reply

Since he's never made a good movie this would be an impossible feat.

What's so bad about his films??
