Best cinematographer in the business?

I think so.

He’s a very good DP but I’m not sure I’d rank him at the top of the pile. JFK is the only time, off the top of my head, that I thought his work was truly world class.

JFK, Casino, U-Turn, The Good Shepard and Shutter Island are some of the most visually astonishing movies ever made. His use of lighting alone is out of this world. His use of colors and contrasts are stunning. His judicious use of differing lens lengths and widths hook a viewer in a way no other filmmaker I know of does.

And I just saw The Hateful Eight for the first time a couple days ago. Fabulous movie overall and Richardson's work alone is almost supernatural. He should have won TWO Oscars for the film!
