He looks like the 17th best looking guy in any given middle-class neighborhood. Acting-wise he has 0 range, 0 charisma, 0 presence. And he has a fucking Amazon Store now?...Huh????
How did even get here and why does he continue to linger?
I don´t get it either. Apparently he is a total jerk irl too. A friend of mine is related to him. He went to a family reunion and he literally refused to talk to anyone.
Your friend probably kept asking him for money for a "really great investment" or kept pitching him a movie idea: "I don't have a screenplay yet, but I'm working on an outline. Think 'Avatar meets Dances With Wolves'"
What is so unbelievable about it? He comes off as kind of snooty on Graham Norton. I wasn´t a first hand witness but I have no reason to doubt my friend.
I wouldn't disagree that he is not exactly brimming with 'star quality', whatever that is, but I do tend to enjoy watching him. He is a strong character actor, particularly notable in The Hurt Locker and Wind River.
I have no idea what he's doing in the Avengers movies, poor guy running around with a bow and arrow and somehow keeping up with all of those superheroes. Pointless character, really.
Heh... the good ol’ “this actor sucks” thread. Well news flash: he’s already made it. So, what’s there to push?
One thing is certain: he was definitely not pushed by naysayers who think they know talent (while they themselves are likely talentless). Case in point, Rolo.
From everything from The Hurt Locker (or let’s go as early as Dahmer) to his “pointless” superhero role... btw he shined in the latest Avengers and will now deservingly star in his own series based on his arrow AND sword wielding character... Renner has had a successful career because, regardless of what whining haters say about him, he’s earned it. *gasps*
He already had two Oscar nominations before he became Hawkeye. Hawkeye was originally not a huge role. Just a cameo in Thor and a supporting character in Avengers. Renner couldn't have known that he was signing on to what would become one, if not THE, biggest franchises of all time. So he went from a respected actor on the rise to super rich and super famous over the next few years.
That kind of thing changes your career trajectory. Just look at Robert Downey Jr. He used to be known as a junkie, sure, but he was also thought of as an Oscar-caliber talent. Fast forward to now and he's hardly done anything outside of Avengers movies. It doesn't mean the talent isn't there, it's just that the gravity of Avengers makes it hard for these actors to expand. That's also why some "good" actors like Joaquin Phoenix and Edward Norton were so reluctant to sign on for these multi-picture deals
