Wind River Reviews

Wind River premiered at Sundance yesterday and the first review has been published. It looks like another well received Taylor Sheridan written, and this time directed, film. The reviewer said this may be Jeremy's best performance since Hurt Locker. This is the type of film in which I think he excels so I am looking forward to seeing it. I also really appreciate the way Sheridan uses the location as a major component of the story. This looks to be no exception.

Looking forward to more reviews and some idea of how they will release it.

I've been seeing generally positive things which is good news! A lot of the praise is for Renner and his character too which is nice. Plus it seems like he is properly the lead in this one. Not that I mind at all that he has done more supporting roles of late (he's great in them) but it will be good to see him lead a more serious dramatic movie again.

These also said some particularly nice things about his performance:

Fingers crossed for a decent wide release!

Great! Thanks for posting all these. I am very happy.
It sounds like this was a perfect role for Renner and he has absolutely nailed it!

I can't wait to see it!

I'm a bit confused where it is with the whole distribution thing though. Do the Weinsteins have it or someone else or no one? I thought I read that TWC closed the deal just before it went to Sundance...

if I can find the link I'll repost it
Harvey let it go prior to it being shown at Sundance.

With the strong reviews and Sheridan being the man of the moment, I thought a deal would have been made for it all ready but last time I checked, there has been nothing

hopefully when I awake tomorrow it will have been sold and a release date would have been set.

Well it has opened on Rotten Tomatoes with 78% and a 7.6 average for 10 reviews. Having looked at a number of reviews and reactions I would say it is not an awards contender, but it has the potential to do well at the box office. It sounds as though it could potentially tap into the same audience as American Sniper did and end up as one of the favorite films of the year among men.

Interestingly, there was a photograph of Weinstein and Renner together, all smiles, at the premier. This suggests there is no real animosity. Maybe the feeling is that the film would be a better fit for a different distributor?

It is lovely to see so many great comments about Jeremy. Even those that don't like the film acknowledge how good he is. In an interview Jeremy said he found it difficult to watch himself on screen and Lizzie commented that she would find it incredible difficult to watch herself if she had given that performance because it was so raw and so honest and revealed so much of himself. Jeremy then did his usual thing and made a joke and deflected, which put a stop to the discussion. I guess he didn't want a replay of the premier Q&A where he was struggling to hold back the tears. Bless him!

I am elated to see Renner back!!!!

HeyUGuys:

Renner is a marvel and if there is right in the film world his name will pop up come Oscar season next year. Sheridan’s script breaths so much life and light into this dark, frigid town. Renner takes the character of Cory Lambert, a man so tragic, damaged and lost, and makes him a hero for everyone watching. His moments of deep insight and knowledge thanks to the incredible monologues penned by Sheridan are more and more moving as the film goes..
