He had announced in 2009 a biopic on the life of English occultist, Aleister Crowley, with Tom Hardy as Crowley, but nothing ever developed out of that statement. I wonder why. Refn would be great as director and Tom Hardy would slide into the mask of Crowley with ease, he's perfect for the role.

Here's the article from 2009. My only peeve is that he incorrectly referred to Crowley as a "Satan-worshipping cult personality" and as "Charles Manson times a billion", although he did admit to not knowing anything about Crowley:

Chemical Wedding was pretty horrible, in my opinion, as was Abbey of Thelema. I don't think a good Crowley film will ever be made and perhaps it's for the better.

Hardy and Refn do not get along in any way, shape, or form. I would count that project as dead.

Heheh Hardy doesn't get along with many directors. He didn't get along with Refn on Bronson and look at what they accomplished with that film. The truth is that Hardy's approach to working with directors is that of initial repellency and aversion, this is his way of testing out the director's threshold for pressure and the ones who tolerate it, he makes the most everlasting films with. He had the same experience with Iñarritu on The Revenant and with Miller on Mad Max and the excellency in both of those films is self evident.

Indeed.

He's done exemplary work with directors he hasn't butted heads with too, arguably better. I like the argumentative nature of him but I do believe that there is little love between the two. And even more importantly: little desire to create between the pair again.

However if they do decide to pair up again: I will buy the ticket again.
