She looks older

When she appeared on "Lost" I thought she looked older than the 16 year old character she was meant to play. However, looking at her date of birth it appears that she wasn't that much older. Even now, though, I think she looks older than she actually is. I'm not knocking her for this, it is just something I observed. Any thoughts on this?
