This is a guy who's been well-advised to avoid publicity, and keep his private life must more private than that of most top actors.

Because I've enjoyed the hell out of some of his performances, but seems like someone I'd absolutely loathe in real life. I'm actively avoiding reading anything about him at this point, because I want to keep liking "Starlord".

reply

Why do you think you'd loathe him in real life, Otter?

reply

I've heard rumors that he's a massive douche in real life, for what that's worth. Plus he likes guns, anti-gay churches, churches, and marrying up. Doesnt sound like my kinda guy at ALL, definitely not pretend-boyfriend material.

reply

How is he a 'massive douche' in real life?

I'm no fan of guns either. I'd personally prefer to see all private firearms banned (although I know that'll never happen), but if he's using them responsibly, why does it bother you?

And his association with an anti-gay church does concern me. I'd like Ellen Page, and other likeminded individuals, to respectfully engage with him and help him to see why his choice of church is so problematic, but clearly he's a religious man who has derived something positive from his faith. Why would you have a problem with 'churches' per se? Do you have the same problem with mosques, synagogues and other places of worship, or just churches?

Finally, what does 'marrying up' mean, and why does if bother you so?

reply

I'm no big fan of organized religion in general, but there's a special place on my shit list for those with racist, sexist, or anti-gay policies, and for anyone who has chosen to join them. And no, I dont tend to engage respectfully on this issue!

As for the "douche" rumors, I've heard rumors but am not trying to find out if they're true, because that could ruin my enjoyment of the GOTG movies. I'm just going to hope the rumors aren't true.

reply

If an organised religion accepts and treats everyone equal, regardless of sex, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, I don't see why anyone would have an issue with it.

I am not religious myself, but I say 'each to their own', as long as they are being respectful of others and treating them as equals. Of course, it appears Chris Pratt's church does not do that, but many other churches and denominations do.

Also, you didn't explain what 'marrying up' means. Excuse me if I'm incorrect, but isn't the concept of 'marrying up' a rather prejudicial and narrow-minded one itself?

reply

I really shouldn't have gotten into this discussion, and I'm not going to pursue it further.

Except to say...

Dude, you seem to be a much nicer person than me.

reply

I agree that he seems much nicer than you. You seem like quite the douche you accuse Chris Pratt of being.

He also casually gave away his cat and dog a few years ago, shows what an insensitive prick he is.

reply

OMG! He's literally Adolf Hitler.

reply

Why did he do that?

reply

So does Justin Bieber yet I don't think Ellen Page criticized him for it.

reply

I suppose if he was Muslim and followed the teachings of the Quran that says women are property and gays should be stoned to death you'd be ok with it.

reply

Thank you.

reply

I like him even more now.

Talk about being in a glass house and throwing stones. Aren't all churches traditionally anti-gay? And don't get me started on the Catholic Church and child molestation.

Anyway, this is Pratt's response:

"“It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which ‘hates a certain group of people’ and is ‘infamously anti-LGBTQ.’ Nothing could be further from the truth,” Pratt stated. “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce, my church community was there for me every stop of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.”

“My faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or group of people," he continued. "My values define who I am. We need less hate in this world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man."

Pratt then referenced a Bible verse, John 13:34: “Jesus said ‘I give you a new command, love one another.' This is what guides me in my life. He is a God of Love, Acceptance and Forgiveness. Hate has no place in my or this world.”"
