Can she sustain her acting career without Hannah Montana?

She doesn't have a thing going on in the next few years.

She's busy with her singing and music, plus I bet she's wanting to distance herself a bit from HM - right now, everyone knows her as Miley's TV BFF. In a year or two, no one's going to remember Hannah Montana and she'll be able to get parts without people comparing (or mentioning) her previous acting role.

I don't blame her for distancing herself from HM. I'm sure she'd like to bury those episodes by now - as would I.

She has so much potential as a singer. Hope she will continue that route.

Why would you want to distance yourself from the role that made you a household name? I hate it when actors pretend that the early work they did (especially when it has made them as famous as Hannah Montana has for Emily) is distasteful. She should be proud of HM and grateful for the opportunities it has given her. I would lose a lot of respect if she didn't acknowledge it in the future.

"Who can say if I've been changed for the better. But because I knew you I have been changed for good."

'Distance yourself' is a bit too strong, I think. Perhaps...what's the term I'm thinking of, dangit, on the tip of my tongue...

It's the time for 'Broadening her horizons', maybe?

Anyway, I've never really seen her say she didn't enjoy her time on HM (indeed, she said once in one of the leadups to the finale 'it was a very important part of my childhood (and I'll always remember it and the friendships she made)'. Have never heard her say that she didn't enjoy working on HM. Was somewhat critical of Disney, yes, but she always liked her projects.

I think the term you're looking for is "exploring her options" =D

right now, I'd say she has a better chance in music than she does acting. Seeing as she's still young, I see her doing what a lot of other people in her position decide, which is sing, then act when she gets older and doesn't appeal to the teen scene any longer.

Britney, Miley and Hilary (Duff) tried to do it, but none had the talent to do both music and movies like Emily does. This is what I meant by distancing yourself from Disney. It's not that you're denying or unappreciative of the help that they gave, but it's more about acknowledging that staying at that level is detrimental to a singer's career.

Just look what it did to the Jonas Brothers. They sucked on the Disney tit for far too long and now they're dead in the water, both musically and cinematically.

Because fans tend to want to keep actresses at their young ages that made them famous - almost as if (figuratively) they are holing their head under water.
