What a face

There was something of the caricature to the face of this superb actress of the 1930s and '40s... it's hard to imagine someone with her distinctive appearance making it to the screen in today's Hollywood, let alone becoming a major character performer of the era. She had a memorable voice with a commanding delivery, but it's her singular face that we remember.

She is brilliant as Aunt Betsy Trottwood in David Copperifield and Lady Catherine in Pride & Prejudice. They don't make them like her anymore.
