Life on Mars - Jason O'Mara as Sam Tyler

Variety reported today that Jason O'Mara will star as Sam Tyler (male lead) in the ABC adaptation of the British hit series Life on Mars. I think that's a good choice - I wondered for a long time which American actor would be right to play this complicated & tormented character. Hey, instead they chose an Irish actor ;-)

What do you think of Jason as Sam Tyler?

No! I refuse to beleave the American version even exists. They don't need it! Americans arn't stupid, they can handle a british show, but networks seem to beleave otherwise. No one can replace John Simm so why even bother - Not impressed.

It has nothing to do with the actor in question, i'm just not happy that this version even exists.

I think Jason is an excellent choice for this character. He is a very talented actor and people won't be disappointed. Jason is also known for working on British television shows such as Monarch of the Glen.
Production for the show begins August 14th and will be considered a mid-season replacement in Winter 2008.

OH GOD! Prepare for another ruined adaptaion of a perfectly good series.
OK there is a small chance it won't be bad but how many remakes are as good as the original?
Why do Americans need to redo perfectly good shows/movies?

I watched Life on Mars when it premiered on BBC America early last year, and thoroughly enjoyed it, even though maybe once an episode I find I have just missed a bit of dialogue due either to the accents or zoning out, but the point is, I'm an American fan of the original show and am completely repulsed at the idea of an American remake. Coupling crashed and burned, and even though shows like Trading Spaces and The Office did well, I consider those the exception to the rule. I just don't understand why they have to remake British shows that are fantastic in their original forms. Can you imagine if they tried to American-ize Doctor Who? Anyway, I jut think it's a wretched idea and will end horribly for all involved, but I'll still probably watch it just to see what comes out... it's like watching a car crash.

Please don't make me imagine an americanised Doctor Who!!!

I agree with most of the sentiment here. I was disappointed when I heard this was in the works. John Sims is Sam and I can not image any other. I heard there is to be a big screen version of State of Play as well. Sigh.

Somehow I image both of these productions will be like the Americanised version of Cracker. YIKES.
