Nolan revive Batman fanbase before the time that Batman Begins release, Batman fanbase was really low due to the *beep* like Batman and Robin.

The Dark Knight was a movie which make Nolan widely well-known director. Intertstellar grossing more than The Martian in worldwide and it even longer.

Also the fact that when he decided to direct a new movie. The twitter and facebook was really obssesion about it.

Almost every A-list director have some flop in term of grossing and he is almost only one who success it without some flop.

The other I can think like him is Wes Anderson but his movie grossing was good but not as much as Nolan.
