Why all the hate?

I noticed a lot of people (on the internet) seem to have hateful feelings towards him. The translate button/google translator doesnt really explain much to me.

What did he do that people dont like him personally? What are those politics he supports (people seem to disagree with him about that a lot)? And something about that he takes money for his films, money he shouldnt be allowed to use.

Can someone maybe explain a little bit for me? Thank you :)

If you've read or watched any of his interviews, you'll notice he's very vocal about his political views. He's a leftist and he supports it very openly.
He's a very popular actor in Brazil and his most famous character (Elite Squad) is a very violent police officer that doesn't agree with leftist policies.
Recently Brazil has seen a rise of the extreme right-wing movement/ideas. So all these hateful feelings towards him you see/read come from these people. But the majority of people in Brazil really like him, even if they don't always agree with his political views.

About the money, he's having trouble securing financing to direct a new movie about Brazilian Marxist revolutionary Carlos Marighella, who fought against Brazil's military dictatorship. Because financiers don't want to make a film about Marighella.

Hi, thank you for your answer. :)

Yes i noticed that he is very open about his political views and not scared to talk about it even though he gets hate for it.

Okay, so thats where the hateful comments are coming from. I read all the things about him and Nascimento and it is so weird to see that people cant seem to seperate fiction and reality ... and hate him for not believing in the same things as his fictional character ... but nice to hear that many people still like him despite his political views :)

I read about that, that nobody wants financing this marighella movie. But i meant something different. Lots of the people who hate Wagner talk about something called 'Lei Rouanet' which google translates into 'rouanet law'. And that Wagner is taking money from it, money which he should not be allowed to use. Or something like that, i cant quite understand it with the not-good-translation facebook provides. Do you know something about that? I am really curious. Because with the poor translation it doesnt make much sense to me ...

I think the biggest problem is people loved Nascimento so much, that they wanted Wagner to be like him. And he's not.

About Lei Rouanet, it's a law that facilitates artists/museums/art business sponsorship by companies. The investment a business makes in an artist is deducted from the amount payable in income tax. It's the one thing right-wing people say about leftist artists in Brazil. That they supported the left-wing government because they got money from it. But they don't say that the majority of the Rouanet money go to big companies (Globo tv for instance) and banks, and some are very critical of the government.
