Just another leftist judging everybody else

Americans are "uninformed", Emily tells us. Unlike Londoners we are dim and stupid - but she is a 'political animal' and totally engaged. Yipee! Also, she thinks everyone should operate as 'anarchists' every day. I guess that works, except in Hollywood where these blathering sheep get in front of cameras and recite words someone else have written. Where is the anarchy there, Emily? Why don't you just rewrite all of your own lines and see how far that will get you.

I don't like boycotts, but in this case I'll just avoid anything this clown is on.

If is so annoying when "enlightened" people use stereotypes and sweeping generalizations to describe the little people.

Take a look at this video and then argue that she was wrong.
You people are all just pissed off that someone has the balls to speak their mind. If they happen to have a non american accent then they are america haters. She is a US citizen. DEAL WITH IT.

reply

True, but, if an American said this about Brits, they would be up in arms, and you know it.

I don't entirely agree with her, but I don't mind her opinion, even if she looks ignorant for generalizing against over 300 million people. Imagine an American going to London, having an interview and stating on live TV that British people are ill informed. I don't think it would go down so well :)

Also, to the member above me, twenty people out of over 300 million are prime examples of how all Americans are???? This interviewer seemed to ask people with Southern accents, not to generalise, but I would guess he went to a specific location to get the results he wanted. If I went to Austrailia or the U.K and interviewed twenty people, would that be a reasonable amount to make it OK to generalize about an entire country? No.

And here, sports fans, is the epitome of hypocrisy. This psycho does nothing but judge people for being "leftist". Typical right wing nut.

This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here.

reply

She's right though. Americans are generally stupid, obese, shallow egocentric people.

And 7 years later, it's gotten worse !

Americans are uninformed, where is the lie in that statement?

reply

Evidence tells us that Americans are uninformed. You want some factual numbers? http://www.alternet.org/story/90161/ignorant_america%3A_just_how_stupi d_are_we

One in five Americans can't find their own country on a map of the world-- a world, incidentally, that 15% of 'em don't understand orbits the Sun. Those numbers really should be zero. Oh, but depending on which study you go by, 50% to 80% do believe in helpful, invisible, selectively intangible entities who intervene in life's affairs in deliberative way (angels).

So, tell us again how America isn't churning out millions of appallingly stupid people and letting them vote willy-nilly. It isn't all of 'em, granted, but it doesn't say much for American brilliance that the people who do know anything can't seem to educate the rest. You don't even seem to have the collective sense to be thoroughly embarrassed over your most shamefully dumb citizens-- you make excuses for them or you pander to their ignorance by hissing "elitist" at those who value and espouse knowledge. That's the really damning bit of stupidity-- American society treats ignorance as 'just another (legitimate!) point of view.'

I'm an island- peopled by bards, scientists, judges, soldiers, artists, scholars, & warrior-poets.

The US has always had a strong anti-intellectual bias, as you can see on this website. I believe we are the nation that created the derogation “egghead” to describe a scholar. We probably coined the words nerd, geek and dweeb; also four-eyes, a two-for-one slur on intelligent people, who are often stereotyped as needing eyeglasses AND on more ordinary people who have a vision disability.

Thanks for saying this. Wish I had beat you to it.

Sweet irony...
