Gerald McRaney is without doubt one of the finest actors ever to grace our screens, he has never given a poor performance, he is utterly believable in every part, he is not a ham, does not overact, is a genuinely lovely man, a fantastic actor and a perfect southern gentleman.

I agree with the OP. He is a splendid actor, very underrated. His face in movie roles can look evil or sweet, and be convincing either way.
