Military Service?

Mackie always seems to play a veteran, to the point I would bet he formerly served in the armed forces. He certainly "talks the talk and walks the walk." Anyone have any background on where, when, and what capacity he served?

I don't believe he has a military background. Pretty sure he picked up acting when other avenues closed to him, but I could be wrong. I have never met him.

My husband is very impressed with the quality of Mac's salute though. We saw him salute a fallen comrade-in-arms on a Simon & Simon rerun. It was textbook perfect, and hubby was wowed. Very few actors get that right.

No, Mr. McRaney has never been in the service.

Years ago (during the run of Major Dad, I think) I read an interview with him where he was asked that very question. His answer was: "ROTC in college".

ROTC , sounds like Andy Griffith in No Time For Sargents. LOL I can see why Gerald and Jameson wouldnt have surved. Do to their knee engeries and in Jamesons cxase back porblems, not to mention they both married young and had children to support would have made them unelligable.
