Buying WCW, thus sending pro wrestling into a depression, to which it is still, yet to recover from. Pro Wrestling will never be "cool" again like it was in the 80s and 90s. It's a niche product now. Almost the entire WCW fan base, and a large portion of the WWF fan base moved onto watching the UFC. There's no winning them back.
