Money, Looks and Brains:

Darn, I was thinking she was a blond bimbo.

Jane was in the 160 IQ range, upper 3% quartile.

Yep, she had a genius IQ and was also a classically trained violinist and pianist who spoke 5 languages .

Now, I'm not saying she wasn't... but has anyone got any proof Jayne had such a high IQ? I keep reading she does and she sure was a smart, talented cookie. But is there a website with a document on it or something that can verify this? Anyone got a link?

reply

I see that "could play violin and speak 5 languages" thing a lot, but just watching her play violin it doesn't seem she was very talented at it. Being able to play and being able to play well are two different things. I don't think she was fluent in 5 languages. I'm sure she was a smart lady, although I wouldn't know where to find "proof" of her IQ test scores.

Here's video of her singing German. I was never a fan, but might watch some of her films down the road.

As with a lot of Hollywood stars, maybe her talents were slightly exaggerated. Hollywood spin is endurable. She was lovely though. :)

There was a documentary some years ago on Ovation channel called Blondes: Jayne Mansfield that provided clips of her playing the piano

Her oldest daughter, Jayne Marie, had confirmed that Jayne could speak 5 languages.

On one site, the languages were French, German, Italian, and Spanish. She also hailed from a wealthy background. According to Wiki, her dad was a lawyer who died young from a heart attack. Her mom died in 2000.

I suppose not, but that's true of EVERYONE's intelligence quotient.
Even if tested (and IQ tests are highly flawed, to say the least), the results are confidential, believe it or not, so anyone who would reveal such things wouldn't be all that trustworthy, anyway.

For what's it worth, I have no problem believing that she was an extraordinarily intelligent person. However, intelligence does not always, or necessarily, translate into business acumen or eloquence.

You mistake the word “evidence” for the word “proof.” To prove means “to test,” as in “let’s see if this is true.” EVIDENCE means “we have found this to be the correct conclusion BASED ON doing a proof.”

Cart, meet horse.

To your point that a kind of intelligence does not guarantee a result, which is correct: think of IQ as intellectual horsepower, and think of personality (which is wholly distinct from intelligence) as the person driving the car. An undeveloped driver (personality) in a high-powered car (intelligence) will not get an outstanding result, and may stuff the high-powered car into the wall.
