Biting the hand that fed him

Kind of bad taste that he now wants to come out and say he was against many of the writer's ideas on true blood after his character got killed off.

I thought the same thing.

He's kind of acting as a dick not caring about True Blood now and thinking he's above it.

Meanwhile the only movies he has are stripper movies, so not like his career is really going that far!

But he's right - his story went nowhere the last few years and wasn't involved with the main cast. He finally had something to do this season and gets killed off early!

He was always a boring, wooden, terrible actor/character who thought he should have been the center of attention if you read his interviews. They gave him plenty to do in season 5 and the fact that he is a terrible actor showed that he could not handle it. He only turned when critics and fans realized that he had no substance in his acting. I guess taking off your shirt on and off TB was not working any more. I mean, when has he ever done any good acting? Is it possible?

All actors have stories lines they don't like, but you have to be professional. True Blood was already a hit before he arrived. He was always complaining about how TB held him back from being Superman and Batman or whatever comicbook hero he is opening begging to be that day. How about his lack of talent and class? That is why he has not worked since March and is praying that Magic Mike 2 goes forward so that he can get another three lines that he can milk to death. Famewhores like that don't care about story lines or real acting. He is close to forty and all people ever talk about is his body. Sad. Forever D-list.

First, let me start off by saying that I am a Joe fan so that clearly sways my opinion. I find him ridiculously attractive and won't deny that. But, I'm not the type of person to deny that being to look at makes you automatically successful. I find Steve Buscemi and Tommy Lee Jones very unattractive but they are superb actors.

Secondly, I do agree he is not the same caliber of actor as a Denzel Washington or Tom Hanks but don't agree that he is D-list level (like say, Tori Spelling or Tom Green). I think his strength lies in comedy because I enjoyed his acting more in What to Expect When You're Expecting and How I Met Your Mother.

When I read/saw his interviews, I just gut the impression he is just very direct and honest in his responses which may come across differently than his intent. My best friend is the same way; he sometimes unintentionally comes off as cold or arrogant for talking "off the cuff".

Joe has repeatedly said in print and love interviews that he wouldn't have the career he has without True Blood. He credits his casting on it as the reason he is getting more roles and for the chance to write his book. He constantly acknowledged what TB has done to gain him success.

However, I don't disagree with what Joe has said about how Alcide was portrayed. I didn't get the impression that he was "bitter" about not having a more prominent role but, rather, how his character often seemed to be a "story within a story" or written in a way that wasn't fully connected to the main plot of the show. Often times when Alcide was featured (especially in season 4 ... I have not seen the remaining seasons yet), it always seemed forced or disjointed...never fully fleshed out.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be content just watching him stand there and look so gorgeous that I want to cry (clothes on or off, preferably off) but I feel like his character had so much potential that was underutilized. An actor can only do so much with the material they are given.

I also thought some of the "woodenness" mentioned by another poster was due to the way his scenes we're written...at least early on. He started off as such a lovestruck puppy clouded by Debbie and her dumbness that I don't know what he could have really done with some of the inane dialog or when he was just standing around listening to other people talk.

It does seem that the majority of Joe trash talkers are guys who come across as jealous of his looks and the attention he receives as their insults about his acting always throw in some petty comment about him being shirtless. I don't have an issue challenging someone's acting ability, or lack thereof, but stick to that and leave out the snarky physical comments. (I'm not speaking directly to the OP or anyone else directly. Just making a general statement).

Okay, I'll admit that was a rather lengthy response but I think it was relative to dispute he's "biting the hand that fed him". Again, totally my opinion and you are welcome to agree or not.

Well said. I couldn't agree more. And I, too, noticed the amount of jealousy coming from other men on this board. I suppose now they almost understand what it's like to be a woman. Almost, but not quite.

Last but not least: Your username is highly illogical. And awesome. (Anything Spock-related easily wins me over. What can I say? I've always had a heart-on for Nimoy.)

Hahaha, my user name comes from a scene from a The Big Bang Theory :)

Ron Burgundy: Boy, that escalated quickly...I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

Joe was in What Expect When You are Expecting for less than five minutes and stood there with his shirt off while actual funny actors said talked. Same with How I Met Your Mother and Magic Mike. All of his roles involve him taking off his shirt. Please point me to project where he gave a substantive and/or critically acclaimed performance, ever? Joe sounded bitter because he was acting like TB kept him being Superman and Batman, which he embarrassing and publicly begged for numerous times. Please, HBO is owned by Warner Brothers (which owns DC Comics) and if they wanted him, they would have worked out something. They did it for one of his co-workers on TB.

And if he is so scary talented like he claims, then why has he not worked since March or so? Hear him tell it, he should be in high demand and turning down scripts left and right and constantly on the set. Then why be so bitter if you moving on to tons of new and exciting projects? Instead he sitting around hoping that Magic Mike 2 films sometime this year. Sounds pretty D-list to me. Who would be jealous about an actor is on the verge of going back into obscurity if he does not keep pimping his body and relationship to the paps?
