Worst director ever

Jesus H Christ but this man's movies are ugly and horrendous.

Also, FIRST. πŸ˜„

reply

I'm sad you don't like his movies, but I think they are visually stunning. Especially the costumes. Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliette all have great visuals.

reply

I despise him. And every single one of his bullshit movies. They did NOT look great.

Edit :I can't actually say I despise him. He might be a sweetheart. Probably is if all his stuff is musical like. I just mean his work. Sorry I got a bit ΓΌberpassionate there

reply

I disagree, but may I ask what you don't like about them? Do you find them garish?

reply

Very garish. And I HATE musicals. His movies feel like musicals without the breaking into song, except for the ones where they break into songs. πŸ˜…

I really hate his aesthetic.

reply

I can see that. I love musicals so they appeal to me.

reply

Heh, yeah I think that's probably it. The musical vibe aspect. I get twitchy eyed over that.

But even apart from that, visually, Australia is right up there with the worst I've ever seen. So very ugly.

reply

Australia is the one I like the least. I think Moulin Rogue is my favourite. I love the costumes and the sets for that. But, it is a musical about a musical, in a way, and if you don't like musicals I can see hating it.

reply

Yeah, Moulin Rouge is a musical so his aesthetic kinda fits. But I hated that movie too because musicals is always cock 'n ball torture for me, and I'm a girl πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

It's just every movie I see of his has that...thing about it, which I get. Directors SHOULD have an idiosyncratic aesthetic about their work. I just happen to have a RUN THE OTHER WAAAAAY! reaction.

reply

Pretty odd to pass judgment on an artist who creates works in a genre that you categorically do not like. It's like saying "I hate all chocolate and I think Hershey's makes the worst candy bar ever!"

reply

I love Catsidhe, but that made me laugh.

reply

Haha! I get your point.😁 But to be fair he didn't only make musicals. The few that aren't, still look like it. πŸ˜‚

reply

Okay, I'm still trying to follow your thinking here...how do his movies (or anyone's for that matter) "look" like a musical?

reply

When the set design is too gaudy and the characters always look like they're about to break into song.

reply

I love him! Most of his films are great fun, and some are brilliant. "Strictly Ballroom" is one of the most wonderful and endearing films ever made!

Unfortunately the one bad film he's ever made, the horrendous "Australia", seems to have killed his career outside Australia. Come on, it wasn't THAT bad.

reply

I hate every single one of his films. πŸ˜… Makes him quite exemplary.

reply

Why the hell are you watching every single one of his films if you hate them?

Really, explain that one.

reply

Usually by accident. Once because I wasn't aware he made the film. And once because everyone was carrying on about it. I used ro almost have to watch every film that came out at one point (a sort of "job hazard" πŸ˜…)

reply

You have to see something to know if it’s good

reply

I love Strictly Ballroom! I must have seen it 10 times by now, if not more.

Tried watching Australia, got bored, don't even remember if I made it all the way through or not. Probably not.

reply

Strictly Ballroom is incredibly good. I've enjoyed everything I've seen of his. The Get Down was one of the greatest television shows I've ever seen.

reply

I also can't stand Elvis for the most part. Now Baz is making an Elvis biopic. PERFECT OR WHAT? πŸ˜…

reply

He isn’t the worst but he is well under mediocre. He’s original and unique but his films tend to give me headaches. He doesn’t overdue the shaky cam so that’s not a problem but the shakiness in the Bourne films were more watchable than some parts of Baz’s stuff.

reply

He is nowhere near the worst director ever.
